eGypt & JorDan 8 Days Road to Petra The magnificent ancient site of Petra was once lost in the mists of time. As well as a full day tour around the rose-red city of Petra, we climb Mt Sinai, explore the desert at Wadi Rum, travel along the biblical Kings Highway to visit Kerak and Madaba, and visit the spectacular Roman city of Jerash. n Cairo n mT sinai n aQaba n wadi rum n PeTra n dana ViLLage n kerak n madaba n amman n Jerash Day 1/Cairo Our trip starts in Cairo. No activities are planned for Day 1 so you may arrive at any time. Day 2/Sinai Leaving Cairo, we travel east into the Sinai Peninsula, where we spend the night at a simple hostel near Mt Sinai. Day 3/Mt Sinai Ascent - Aqaba Rising before dawn, we hike up to the summit of Mt Sinai (2285m) to watch the sun rise over the deep red hills of the peninsula  a magical experience. At Nuweiba we catch the hydrofoil to Aqaba, a lively beach resort in southern Jordan. Day /Wadi Rum - Petra Wadi Rum is a mystical place where weathered sandstone mountains rise out of the white and pink-coloured sands. We enjoy an afternoon jeep safari with the local villagers before heading to Petra for the night. Day 5/Petra A full day tour allows us time to savour the many wonders of this ancient city, founded more than 2000 years ago as a temporary refuge for nomadic Arabs and Bedouin. We enter through the narrow siq and spend our day exploring the temples, tombs, public buildings and the Roman amphitheatre. Day /Dana - Kings Highway - Amman We visit the artisan community project at Dana Village, where we can purchase attractive crafts produced by the local people. We then head along the ancient Kings Highway, visiting the spectacular crusader castle at Kerak and various other historic sites. We spend the night in Amman. Day 7/Jerash The Roman city of Jerash is one of the grandest ancient cities in the world, with an imposing collection of archways, theatres, baths and colonnades. In the afternoon we can take an optional visit to the Dead Sea. Day 8/Amman Our trip ends today in Amman. Additional accommodation in Amman is available on request. trip info Prices: See page 2.
