Backroads of Morocco
This trip introduces the many different faces of Morocco. We explore the incredible medieval city of Fes, the timeless sand dunes of the Sahara, and mud-brick cities which date back to the Middle Ages. Along the way we meet the friendly local people and enjoy wonderful landscapes.

Day 1/Casablanca Our trip starts today in Casablanca. No activities are planned so you may arrive at any time. Day 2/Casablanca - Meknes We have time to visit the impressive Mosque of Hassan II and later take the train to Meknes, where a local guide takes us through the beautiful old medina, visiting the lovely Medresse Bou Inania. Days 3-/Fes We continue by train to Fes, a vibrant city full of atmosphere and colour. We enjoy a half-day guided tour of the old city and the rest of our time is free to explore the winding streets, crowded bazaars, historic houses and ancient dye pits that make this city so unique. Days 5-/Midelt - Merzouga - Erg Chebbi Nestled between the High and Middle Atlas, Midelt is in a beautiful setting, and is fantastic place to enjoy an afternoon walk. The next morning we drive to Merzouga and on to Erg Chebbi, where we spend the night in a simple desert camp and enjoy a camel ride through the sand dunes. Days 7-8/Todra Gorge - Dades Valley - Ait Benhaddou Leaving the beautiful desert behind, we head to Todra Gorge. Mud brick kasbahs, unbelievably green palm groves and fields, and deep, colourful gorges make this area truly spectacular. We enjoy leisurely scenic walks in both Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley, and have an afternoon to discover Moroccos most famous kasbah at Ait Benhaddou. Day 9/High Atlas - Marrakech We visit the crumbling mud-brick citadel at Telouet and enjoy spectacular views of the High Atlas as we cross Tizi n Tichka pass (2260m) on our way to Marrakech, which we reach in the late afternoon. Days 10-11/Marrakech Marrakech is a lovely city, with the Atlas Mountains rising in the distance. We enjoy an orientation walk around the old centre and in the evening we visit the incredible main square (Jemaa el Fna) to watch fire-eaters, snake-charmers and storytellers. We can eat here in one of many open-air restaurants. Our trip ends the following morning. Additional accommodation is available in Marrakech on request.
