Days 10-11/The Drake Passage We return to Ushuaia across the Drake Passage in the knowledge that we are among the lucky few to have set foot on Antarctica. The ocean is home to abundant wildlife with Commersons dolphins often sighted on the approach to Cape Horn. Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, sits in a beautiful setting at the foot of the Andes, in the southern tip of Argentina. On arrival we spend our first night in a hotel in town. On Day 2 we board our ship and cruise through the Beagle Channel, bound for Antarctica. Days 3-/The Drake Passage As we cross the Drake Passage, our team of experts will be out on deck to help us spot whales and identify seabirds. Our expedition team prepares us for the wildlife well encounter in Antarctica, with a series of fascinating presentations. As we cross the Antarctic convergence, the temperature drops dramatically. Huge icebergs will start to appear on the horizon. Magnificent seabirds like wandering albatross and storms petrel guide us on our journey southward. Days 5-9/The Antarctic Peninsula - South Shetland Islands Land, birds, seals, whales, volcanoes abound as we arrive in Antarctica and begin exploring this mind-blowing natural wonder. Our program is very flexible and will be adjusted to suit the prevailing weather and ice conditions. On shore, we are welcomed by committees of chattering birds whilst a leisurely Zodiac excursion will take us past huge icebergs on our search for wildlife. We may even be lucky enough to get up close to a whale! During our exploration of the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands we sail through the Gerlache Strait or along the Cusco Lemaire Channel Group size: Maximum 110. Grade: Easy. Transport: bus, expedition ship, Zodiac. Accommodation: 1 night hotel, 10 nights expedition ship. Meals: 11 breakfasts, 9 lunches, 10 dinners.
