Day 17/Fish River Canyon Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world, but nowhere near as well known as the largest. A walk along the rim affords great views of this geological wonder and the sunsets here are stunning, as you watch the canyon walls change colour and become tinged with gold. Day 18/Gariep (Orange) River The Gariep (Orange) River flows from the mountainous kingdom of Lesotho to the Atlantic Ocean and forms the natural border between Namibia and South Africa. An optional afternoon canoe trip is a great way to take in the scenery and absorb the serenity. Days 19-21/Winelands - Cape Town We drive south toward the fabled Winelands region of the Western Cape. Following a final night of camping in the picturesque Cederberg region we visit some of the wineries near Stellenbosch to taste the great produce of this region before heading to our Cape Town lodge for the final night of our tour. A sumptuous seafood braai (barbecue) on the rooftop terrace of our hotel showcases Cape Town cuisine at its best. Additional days to experience the stunning beauty of the Cape area are strongly recommended! The Okavango River empties into the vast Kalahari Desert, fanning out into channels and creating a network of islands. Exploring this region by mokoro, a traditional dug-out canoe, is a sublime experience. A campsite is chosen on one of the many islands and from here the symphony of the night unfolds. We visit a local school and village before spending a further night on a houseboat, within the permanent inner panhandle, to complete a memorable delta experience. Travelling west along the Kavango River, we continue to Rundu. Days 9-11/Etosha National Park The cultural aspects of Namibia are a real highlight. In the morning there is a chance to visit the Kavango tribe whose wood-carving skills are exceptional. Etosha National Park is the third largest wildlife sanctuary in the world and the diversity of animal and birdlife that congregates at the waterholes here is extraordinary. With game drives each day and floodlit waterholes at each campsite at night, our wildlife viewing opportunities in Etosha are maximised over three incredible days. Day 12/Spitzkoppe Driving south from Etosha we pass through the stunning scenery of Damaraland, as we make our way to the community-run campsite of Spitzkoppe. This area has long been of spiritual importance to the Bushmen and features several of their ancient paintings. Tonight you get to sleep under a blanket of a million stars! Days 13-14/Cape Cross - Swakopmund At Cape Cross we see the largest seal colony in Africa on the shores of the Atlantic, before continuing to Swakopmund. Here you can choose from various optional activities including dune boarding, quad biking, skydiving or a township tour. In the evening we hit the town to check out the nightlife. The European feel and culture of Swakopmund, combined with the towns geographic isolation, makes for a unique atmosphere! Days 15-16/Namib-Naukluft National Park - Sossusvlei The Namib-Naukluft National Park is the largest national park in Africa and certainly one of its most memorable. Sitting atop 300-metre-high dunes watching the interplay of light and shifting sand as the sun sets is a powerfully surreal experience. We also explore the beautiful vleis (inland lakes), Sesriem Canyon as well as taking a special Bushmen walk in the Deadvlei.
