Days 13-14/La Paz Following the shores of Lake Titicaca we cross the frontier into Bolivia and travel by way of Copacabana to the capital of La Paz. We are free to roam the narrow cobblestone streets of this very Indian city, built on the slopes of a deep canyon. A visit to the Witches Market is a must and there are many colourful locals markets great for alpaca sweaters and local handicrafts. Days 15-16/Uyuni Salt Desert We take a wonderful train journey around the edge of Lake Poopo and through the mineral rich mountains of the altiplano to the town of Uyuni, our base for exploring the great salt desert. Our excursion across this strange and fascinating desert visits the village of Jirira and the Tunupa Volcano where we have outstanding views. Days 17-18/Potosi Mount Cerro Rico dominates the town of Potosi, home to what was once the largest silver mine in the world. Here we visit the main square and cathedral, the Jesuit Tower, museum and the ancient mint. There is also time for an optional excursion to a silver mine where you can witness first hand the gruelling life of Bolivian miners. Days 19-20/Sucre A short drive away is Sucre, one of the prettiest towns in Bolivia. Wander the streets of Old Sucre and visit the Franciscan Monastery of La Recolta, the chapel of the Virgin of Guadalupe, the Cathedral and the Museum of La Casa de la Libertad. Day 21/La Paz Our insight into Peru and Bolivia ends today with a flight back to La Paz.

Days 1-2/Lima Lima has a lot to offer. There are some great museums containing priceless artifacts of the Inca and coastal civilisations and the centre of Lima has some amazing colonial churches and buildings. Days 3-4/Cusco High up in the Andes is Cusco, former stronghold of the Inca Empire. Well visit the Plaza de Armas, the great cathedral and museums of the city and then you can head to the Inca sites of Sacsayhuaman, Quenca and Tambo Machay. Further on is the market town of Pisac and the awesome fortress ruins of Ollantaytambo. Days 5-9/Trekking the Inca Trail - Cusco Our trek leads us high into the mountains to Perus most famous site incredible Machu Picchu! Refer to page 130 for full trek details. We have time to explore the stunning ruins and to take a dip in the hot springs at Aguas Calientes before boarding the train back to Cusco for a final day of discovery. Days 10-12/Puno - Lake Titicaca Our next stop is beautiful Lake Titicaca where we visit the floating islands of the Uros Indians. We stay overnight with an Indian family in their simple home on the island of Amantani. This is cultural exchange at its best!
