Days 3-5/Kyaiktiyo - Bago We head to Kyaiktiyo, where we spend the night on the hilltop alongside the incredible balancing rock one of the countrys most holy sites. After descending, we drop in on Bago, home of the largest reclining Buddha in the world, before catching the train to Mandalay. Days 6-7/Mandalay Mandalay is a rich cultural centre surrounded by ancient royal cities. We take a boat ride on the Irrawaddy River, allowing us to witness daily rural life as it unfolds. We arrive at Mingun, home to what would have been the worlds largest pagoda if an earthquake hadnt prevented its completion. The views from the top, over the lush emerald valley, are simply sublime. Days 8-0/Pagan After a day long boat cruise on the Irrawaddy River, the magnificent archaeological site of Pagan (Bagan) awaits. Travelling on bicycles, we explore some of the many temples, stupas and pagodas that litter the lush plains along the Irrawaddy River. Be sure not to miss the lively market in the village of Nyaung U. Days -3/Inle Lake Expansive Inle Lake, in the highlands of the Shan State, is encircled by towering mountains. From our base in the township of Nyaungshwe, we enjoy a half-day boat tour of Inle Lake, famous as the home of the legrowing Intha fishermen.
