THailanD 8 Days Taste of Thailand Explore the ancient Khmer temple of Phimai, a highlight of the remote and fascinating Isan Province, and spend a night in a traditional Thai teak house with a local family. n bangKoK n grand palaCe n greater Khao yai national parK n phiMai & teaK houSe hoMeStay n KanChanaburi n bridge over river KWai n hellfire paSS n eraWan fallS Day /Bangkok Our trip starts in Bangkok today  you can arrive at any time as no activities are planned. Day 2/Khao Yai National Park We travel to Khao Yai National Park and enjoy an evening excursion to its caves to witness the nocturnal display of its famous bats. Day 3/Phimai Travelling on we reach the largely unvisited Isan region of northeast Thailand  a charming part of the country, famous for its friendly people. One major highlight is the impressive Khmer temple of Phimai, built by the powerful Angkor Empire of Cambodia. Day 4/Teak House in Sena Thailand is renowned for its traditional teak houses. Today we travel to a district known as Sena, where we spend a night in a teak house as a guest of our Thai friends  a great opportunity to get a first-hand taste of local village life. Days 5-6/Kanchanaburi After an early morning rise to offer alms to the monks, we travel to Kanchanaburi, where we take to our bicycles and ride around town, visiting the war cemetery, JEATH Museum and the legendary Bridge on the River Kwai. The following day we visit Hellfire Pass and enjoy a swim at beautiful Erawan Falls. Days 7-8/Bangkok We travel back to Bangkok and enjoy a city tour, taking in the majestic Grand Palace and Wat Pho, home to the famous Reclining Buddha. After a night out on the town, our adventure ends on the morning of Day 8. 16 Days Days -2/Lampang - Chiang Mai In Lampang, we spend a night in a home stay at the unique Thai Elephant Conservation Centre, interacting with and learning about these gentle giants and even helping their trainers round them up in the jungle! We then travel by songthaew to Chiang Mai, where we have a free afternoon. An evening at the famous Night Bazaar beckons. Days 3-4/Chiang Mai On a full day of adventure, we visit a waterfall, experience a hill tribe village and ride an elephant. We also have a free day to enjoy the many sights Thailands Rose of the North has to offer before an overnight train takes us back to Bangkok. Days 5-6/Bangkok After a free day to further explore Bangkok, our trip finishes after breakfast on the morning of Day 16. Day /Bangkok You are free to arrive at any time today as no activities are planned. Day 2/Khao Yai National Park Khao Yai is one of Thailands oldest National Parks and the park and its surroundings are renowned for varied wildlife. We stay near the park and have an evening excursion to watch rare bats emerge from their caves in an unmissable nocturnal display. Day 3/Phimai The northeast area of Thailand, known as Isan, is famous for its impressive Khmer temples that pre-date the famous Angkor Wat in Cambodia. We visit the temple of Phimai, and perhaps have time for an optional cycle ride around the countryside, stopping off in tiny villages along the way. Day 4/Teak House in Sena Boarding a local bus we travel to Sena district, where we spend a night in a traditional Thai teak house in a small village  a great chance to get to know the friendly locals. Days 5-6/Kanchanaburi An early morning start allows us to witness the monks collecting alms, before we travel to Kanchanaburi. A cycle ride around town takes us to the JEATH Museum, war cemetery and the legendary Bridge on the River Kwai. We also visit Hellfire Pass before relaxing with a swim at beautiful Erawan Falls. Days 7-8/Bangkok After returning to Bangkok we visit some of the citys many highlights, such as the Grand Palace, home of the much-revered Emerald Buddha, and Wat Pho, where we see the Reclining Buddha. A free day enables you to discover Bangkoks amazing shopping opportunities and perhaps its nightlife! Days 9-0/Sukhothai A day train to Phitsanulok takes us past green rice fields, before we head to Sukhothai. Riding a bicycle around the historical park is a great way of discovering the many temples and monuments of Thailands first capital. Group size: Maximum 15. Grade: Easy. Transport: aircon bus, elephant, local fan bus, songthaew, taxi, train, tuk-tuk. Accommodation: 1 night sleeper train, 9 nights guesthouse, 3 nights hotel, 2 nights homestay.
