17 Days Inland China This journey, from Hong Kong to Beijing, showcases some of the most impressive sights in China. From stunning harbours and limestone karsts to majestic rivers and lush paddy fields, this adventure offers one breathtaking scene after another. n hong Kong n yangShuo n yangtze river CruiSe n Chengdu n giant pandaS n leShan n Xian n terraCotta WarriorS n beijing n tiananMen Square n forbidden City n great Wall Days -2/Hong Kong Your trip starts in bustling Hong Kong. There are no activities planned for Day 1, so you can arrive any time. There is plenty to do in this vibrant metropolis, so you should consider arriving a day or two before the trip starts. On Day 2, we catch a hydrofoil to Guangzhou, before boarding the overnight train to Guilin. The ride out of Hong Kongs spectacular harbour is a highlight! Days 3-5/Yangshuo Yangshuo, our base for the next few days, is a picturesque riverside town set among spectacular limestone outcrops  its a photographers paradise! Cycling through the countryside, we visit several small villages and enjoy superb views of lush farmland and the amazing limestone karsts. We also enjoy a relaxing cruise along the picturesque Li River. Days 6-9/Yangtze River Cruise We travel to Yichang, and its here that you catch your first glimpse of the majestic Yangtze River. A stroll along the riverfront as the sun sets is a great way to end the day. We board our riverboat and start our cruise on the Yangtze  one of the worlds great travel experiences. Youll see towering cliffs plunge steeply into the river, and view the gigantic construction site of the Three Gorges Dam. The scenery along the river is extraordinary, with rural farmland, bustling cities and rugged mountain ranges; a fresh scene awaits you at every bend. We leave our riverboat in Fengdu and head to Chongqing for the night. Days 0-2/Chengdu - Giant Buddha In Chengdu we visit the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base. Set up in 1990, it aims to ensure the survival of Chinas cutest national treasures. A day trip takes us to Leshan, where we visit Da Fo  the largest Buddha in the world! Measuring 71 metres in height, it is carved into the cliff face, overlooking the junction of the Dadu and Min Rivers. Days 3-4/Xian - Terracotta Warriors Xian is home to the vast army of Terracotta Warriors  a great archaeological wonder unearthed by a farmer in 1974. Well explore this massive site, where over 7000 life-size statues and horses stand in battle formation. In Xian, theres time to explore the markets, walk along the ancient walls and stroll through the fascinating Muslim Quarter, testament to the old Silk Road trading route. Days 5-7/Beijing - Great Wall Beijing is an amazing city  a great place to explore with many awesome sights to marvel at. We check out the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, and of course, a visit to China would not be complete without a walk along the Great Wall (it really is great!). On Day 17 our trip comes to an end in the morning. Group size: Maximum 15. Grade: Moderate. Transport: bicycle, bus, hydrofoil, riverboat, sleeper train.
