cHina 16 Days Days 8-2/Yangtze River Cruise Travelling by train through rich rural farmland, we reach Yichang in time to stretch the legs and take a sunset stroll along the banks of the mighty Yangtze River. We board our riverboat and over the next two and a half days we cruise upstream, passing quiet riverside towns and large industrial cities. We travel through spectacular gorges with sheer cliff faces towering above us. Its breathtaking. On arrival in Chongqing, we have time to explore this hilly city before boarding the sleeper train to Xian. Days 3-4/Xian - Terracotta Warriors The vast army of Terracotta Warriors is one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century. Over the last two decades, thousands of life-size figures and their horses have been unearthed in full battle formation. After our visit, theres time to wander through the back laneways and the markets of the enchanting Muslim Quarter. A walk along the ancient city walls is also a highlight. Days 5-6/Beijing We arrive in Beijing and have a free day to further explore the city before our trip ends the following morning. Yangtze, Warriors & Wall Journey through 2000 years of Chinas incredible history in a little over two weeks. We visit fascinating historical sites, explore authentic villages and towns, and witness the modern face of China in Shanghai. We tour the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square and theres also plenty of free time to wander through the backstreets or hutongs  home to bustling local markets, shops and traditional houses. Days 4-5/Shanghai Modern skyscrapers tower above the ancient alleyways and opulent Art Deco boulevards in Shanghai, one of the worlds fastest growing cities. Theres plenty of time to check out the famous riverside Bund, as well as Shanghais many museums and markets. After a busy day, step out and sample the excellent restaurants and bars  Shanghai rocks! Days 6-7/Nanjing Nanjing, Chinas capital during the Ming Dynasty, is a beautiful walled city with a long and turbulent history. We can visit Memorial Hall of the Nanjing Massacre and theres time to explore Sun Yat Sens Mausoleum, the Nanjing Museum and the impressive Ming City Gates... or just head off and explore the back streets. 15 Days East Coast Adventure This trip showcases many of Chinas highlights, from the modern city of Shanghai to the teahouses of Hangzhou; and from the spectacular scenery around Yellow Mountain to Beijings Forbidden City and the Great Wall. Head up the mountain by foot or cable car  the views of the surrounding countryside are extraordinary. After youve returned from the clouds, why not relax in the hot springs at the base of the mountain. Days 6-7/Shanghai Once known for its opium dens and general decadence, Shanghai has been transformed into a modern city. We stroll along the famous river waterfront (The Bund), lined by Art Deco buildings, and visit the picturesque Yu Yuan Gardens, nurtured into existence between 1559 and 1577. In your free time, you can visit one of the many fascinating museums or just shop until you drop in this vibrant city. Days 8-9/Suzhou After a final look around Shanghai, we head to picturesque Suzhou, where there are many beautiful gardens to explore. Well jump on bikes to cycle through the backstreets and alleyways and experience the laidback atmosphere of this beautiful city. Days 0-/Xian - Terracotta Warriors Xian will be one of your favourite cities in China. Home to the mighty Terracotta Warriors, it has a vibrant and bustling Muslim Quarter and is one of the few cities in China where the old city walls are still intact. Theres time to see it all. Xian also boasts a number of legendary restaurants  the local noodle soup is a must! Days 2-5/Beijing - Great Wall During our time in the capital, we explore the Forbidden City  centre of power for five centuries  and visit Tiananmen Square. We also take a day trip to the Great Wall  it is a wonderful experience to walk along this historic structure. Our trips ends in Beijing on Day 15. Trip info Prices: See inside cover. Why not take the lift to the top of the Oriental Pearl Tower for magnificent views across town. Day 2/Hangzhou After the hustle and bustle of Shanghai we slow down, grab a bike and explore the temples and gardens that surround Hangzhous famous West Lake. This beautiful city is well known for producing quality tea, so another great way to relax is to kick back in one of Hangzhous famous teahouses.
