No activities are planned, so you can arrive at any time. Days 2-3/Agra - Taj Mahal We take the train to Agra. Indias most famous icon, the majestic Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his second wife. We visit this amazing 17th-century marble mausoleum and we also have the option of visiting Agra Fort. The following day we board the overnight train to Katni. Days 4-6/Bandhavgarh National Park Bandhavgarh is arguably the best place in India to see the Royal Bengal tiger. We stay in a jungle lodge on the edge of the reserve and enjoy jeep safaris in search of the varied wildlife within the park. On the evening of Day 6 we take the overnight train to Jaipur. Days 7-8/Jaipur The beautiful city of Jaipur is known as the pink city because of the colour of many of its buildings. We visit the stunning 16th-century Amber Fort, built of red sandstone and white marble. Theres also plenty of time to visit the Old City, the beautiful Palace of the Winds and the Johari Jewellery Bazaar. Day 9/Bundi We take the local bus to the fortified town of Bundi that lies in the shadows of the impressive Taragarh Fort and Bundi Palace. The narrow lanes and busy bazaar of this off-the-beaten-track town give us a sense of an India from a bygone era. Days 0-/Tordi Garh A morning jeep drive takes us to the small village of Tordi Garh, where we stay in a traditional haveli (merchants house). This village gives us a rare insight into rural Rajasthan, as well the opportunity to explore the nearby fort and sand dunes in the desert. Day 2/Pushkar We travel on a backroad route to the holy town of Pushkar. Famous for its annual camel fair, this beautiful town has stunning temples, lakes and an interesting bazaar. It is the perfect place to chill out for the afternoon and evening. Days 3-4/Nimaj Bagh After the morning in Pushkar we drive to Nimaj Bagh, where the villagers carry on their traditional lifestyle as if time has stood still. The real India is best discovered away from the big cities and popular monuments, so on our second day here, we explore the villages of the Bishnoi, Kalbelias and Gujars. Day 5/Jhadol We further explore the backroads of rural Rajasthan by driving to the village of Jhadol, in the foothills of the Aravali Range. Tonight we camp close by the village of the Bhils people. Originally members of a nomadic warrior tribe of the Mewat region, the villagers are still master archers, but today live peacefully rearing sheep and goats. Days 6-7/Udaipur It is a short drive back to civilisation and the city of Udaipur. Sometimes known as the Venice of the East and built around the shores of the beautiful Lake Pichola, this city has numerous temples, palaces and havelis and the exquisite setting of the Lake Palace on Jagwinas Island is unforgettable. Other highlights include the Jagdish Temple and the City Palace. On the evening of Day 17 we catch the overnight sleeper train to Delhi. Day 8/Delhi We arrive back in Delhi early in the morning and explore this fascinating city. We visit Chandni Chowk, one of the oldest and busiest markets in Old Delhi, where we explore the bustling narrow lanes and discover the exotic produces of the small shops and stalls. We also visit lively Connaught Place, the commercial hub of New Delhi. Day 9/Delhi Our trip ends today in the morning.
