We experience the highlights of Egypt at a comfortable pace and enjoy a memorable riverboat cruise from Luxor to Aswan.

Days 1-2/Cairo - Pyramids - Sphinx Our trip starts in Cairo. No activities are planned on Day 1 so you may arrive at any time. On Day 2 we enjoy a guided visit to the ancient pyramids and Sphinx. In the evening we take the night train to Luxor. Day 3/Luxor Arriving in Luxor there is lots to see and do and the day is free to explore the town and its celebrated bazaars. Days 4-6/Valley of the Kings - Nile Cruise Crossing the Nile we ride donkeys into the Valley of the Kings where we visit three major tombs. We then board our riverboat and set sail down the Nile for Aswan. Stopping off during our cruise over the next two days, we ride horse-drawn carriages to Edfu Temple and visit the Temple of Sobek at Komombo. Days 7-8/Aswan Aswan is a great spot and very popular with travellers. We have time to explore the colourful Nubian bazaar and for a variety of optional activities. On our second evening we take the night train back to Cairo. Days 9-10/Cairo Back in Cairo our final day is free to explore the old city and the amazing Khan el Khalili bazaar. Our trip ends on Day 10 after breakfast. Additional accommodation is available in Cairo on request.

Alexandria Extension
Alexandria is a laid-back city with great beaches, delicious seafood and atmospheric coffee shops. This three-day extension can be added to the start or finish of another Geckos Egypt trip.

Egyptian hieroglyphics were largely indecipherable until the Rosetta Stone was discovered in Alexandria in 1799. Written in Greek and Egyptian, the Rosetta Stone provided the key to deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphic writing.

Today you drive in a private vehicle from Cairo to Alexandria - around a three hour trip. In the afternoon you meet your guide and visit the new Alexandria Museum. Day 2/Alexandria The day is free to stroll along the seafront and to check out the famous coffee shops near the Eastern Harbour. Alternatively, there is an optional day tour to El Alamein. Day 3/Alexandria - Cairo After breakfast you return to Cairo, arriving around midday.
