Amman MEDITERRANEAN SEA JORDAN Petra SINAI Cairo Nuweiba Aqaba Wadi Rum Mt Sinai EGYPT Abu Simbel Nile e Riv r Luxor Edfu Komombo RED SEA Aswan Egypt & Jordan Caravan 15 Days Egypt & Jordan Caravan incLUDEs aBU siMBEL Days 8-9/Cairo - Sinai We arrive in the morning and have a full day to check out some of the other places of interest. Many will want to head off to the fabulous Khan el Khalili bazaar  Cairos Aladdins Cave. The following day we head east into the Sinai Peninsula, where we spend the night at a simple hostel near Mt Sinai. Day 10/Mt Sinai - Aqaba In the early hours of the morning we hike to the summit of Mt Sinai (2285m). We watch the sun rise over the peninsula, bathing the surrounding mountains in soft pink light. Later, at Nuweiba, we catch the hydrofoil to Aqaba, in southern Jordan. Day 11/Wadi Rum - Petra At Wadi Rum, once the home of Lawrence of Arabia, we take an afternoon jeep ride into the desert, surrounded by spectacular weathered sandstone cliffs. We continue to Petra for the night. Day 12/Petra Petra, once lost to civilisation, was rediscovered by a Swiss explorer in 1812. We walk into this ancient city and enjoy a full day tour exploring the tombs, colonnades, amphitheatre and other places of interest. Day 13/Dana - Kings Highway - Amman Dana is an excellent community project that includes a rejuvenated village and an outlet for local arts and crafts. After our visit we travel along the ancient Kings Highway, exploring the crusader castle at Kerak and other historic sites. We spend the night in the lively city of Amman. Day 14/Jerash The Roman city of Jerash is one of the grandest ancient cities in the world, with an imposing collection of archways, theatres, temples and cobbled streets. In the afternoon we can make an optional visit to the Dead Sea. Day 15/Amman Our trip comes to an end this morning in Amman. Additional accommodation is available on request. While the Nile Valley can rightly claim to contain some of the most impressive ancient monuments in the world, Jordan also has its share of historical treasures. No activities are planned for Day 1 so you may arrive at any time. The next day we visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities and then head out to the edge of the Western Desert to visit the imposing pyramids, the Sphinx and the intriguing Valley Temple. In the evening we take the night train to Aswan. Day 3/Aswan Arriving in Aswan we have a free day to kick back and soak up the atmosphere of this friendly southern city. Days 4-6/Nile Cruise We make an early start for Abu Simbel, visiting the great temple of Ramses II before returning to Aswan around midday to board our riverboat. We sail towards Luxor, visiting the temples at Komombo and Edfu  and have plenty of time to relax and watch the world go by. One evening we enjoy a fun night with Egyptian themes. On arrival in Luxor we visit Karnak Temple and have time to check out the bazaar. Day 7/Luxor - Valley of the Kings We cross the Nile at dawn where we meet our donkeys and ride up into the Valley of the Kings. This is great fun and one of the highlights of our visit to Egypt. The rest of the day is free until we catch the night train back to Cairo. www.geckosadventures.co.uk 81
