Days 4-6/Marsa Matruh - Tobruk - Cyrene We spend the day travelling along the beautiful Mediterranean coast on our way to Marsa Matruh. Crossing the border into Libya, we visit Tobruk, another important WWII site. Tobruk is also home to the fabulous ancient ruins of Cyrene, where spectacular hilltop temples stand on cliffs above the Mediterranean. Day 7/Apollonia - Qasr Libya - Benghazi We explore Apollonia, another impressive ancient site, and visit Qasr Libya, which is home to some wonderfully-preserved Byzantine mosaics, before continuing on to the colourful city of Benghazi. Days 8-9/Zliten - Leptis Magna We head along the coast to Zliten, our base for exploring Leptis Magna, one of the finest ancient Roman cities in the world. Theres so much to explore at this amazingly well-preserved site, including the forum, the amphitheatre, the bath houses and many beautiful mosaics. We continue our journey to Tripoli. Days 10-11/Tripoli

Day 1/Cairo Our trip starts in Cairo no activities are planned for Day 1 so you may arrive at any time. Days 2-3/Alexandria In Alexandria we visit the Alexandria Museum and the extensive Roman Catacombs. The rest of our time is free to explore this cosmopolitan Mediterranean city and theres also time for an optional side-trip to the WWII battlefields at El Alamein. Tunis Kairouan
Tripoli, an exciting, cosmopolitan city perched on a spectacular harbour, enjoys a fusion of fascinating cultures and a rich history. The medina is a great place to spend a few hours wandering and hunting for treasures to take home. Our adventure ends on Day 11 after breakfast. Tunis

Days 5-6/Tobruk - Cyrene Crossing the border into Libya, we visit Tobruk, another important WWII site. Well also explore the amazing ruins of Cyrene a mustsee of Libya. Day 7/Apollonia - Qasr Libya - Benghazi A short drive brings us to Apollonia, another impressive ancient site, and later we visit Qasr Libya, home to some very well-preserved Byzantine mosaics. We continue to Benghazi, where we explore the old city with its narrow alleyways and atmospheric bazaar. Days 8-9/Sirt - Zliten - Leptis Magna We head along the coast, through Sirt to Zliten. This is our base for exploring Leptis Magna, one of the finest ancient Roman cities in the world. We spend most of the day exploring this amazing site, imagining times gone by. In the afternoon, we continue our journey to Tripoli. Days 10-11/Tripoli - Sabratha Tripoli is an exciting, cosmopolitan city overlooking a beautiful harbour, and it has a rich culture and history. The medina is wonderful and a great place to spend a few hours we can explore the fascinating bazaars and historic buildings. The following day we travel to the spectacular Roman ruins at Sabratha, then cross the border into Tunisia, where we spend the evening in an authentic Troglodyte house. Days 12-14/Matmata - Kairouan After checking out the bazaar at Douz, we ride camels into the spectacular desert, then spend the evening with a local family, who cook us some local fare. The following day we explore the fascinating medina before spending the night in Kairouan, an Islamic city with an impressive mosque. We continue our journey to Tunis. Days 15-16/Tunis Shaped by 3500 years of history, Tunis is a fascinating city to explore. We have a full day to discover the old whitewashed medina with its atmospheric souqs and splendid old mosque. Our adventure comes to an end the following morning.
