Leafy walks and cycle tracks lead to quiet villages, unchanged by the years.
Just imagine looking up from your picnic on a beautiful day on Coaley Peak to gaze over the River Severn to a backdrop of the Forest of Dean and the Welsh hills beyond. The centre of the peak is dominated by the Nympsfield neolithic limestone long barrow dating back to about 2900 BC. Remains of at least 16 skeletons were found in the chambers when the site was excavated in 1937 but today it is the perfect place to visit, picnic, or take a leisurely stroll. Snowshill is a pretty Cotswold village with a church at its heart, whereas Mow Cop Castle Folly was thought to be a Roman ruin but was in fact built around 1750 as a summer house for local nobility, set on the highest point in the area and visible throughout most of the region. Planted over twenty years ago by brothers Lindsay and Edward Heyes, the fun of the aMazing Hedge Puzzle at Symonds Yat has made it Herefordshire's most popular private tourist attraction.
