Ibiza
An island paradise with beautiful beaches and superb nightlife
The reputation of Ibiza might lead you to think that it is a well-known complex of nightclubs somewhere in the Mediterranean, but the reality is that Ibiza is a spectacularly beautiful island with stunning scenery, superb beaches, ultra chic shops, gourmet restaurants and a very relaxing pace of life. Yes, there are up to a dozen world-famous nightclubs in and around San Antonio and Ibiza Town, but the rest of the island is pretty, restful, unspoiled and full of charm. For anyone aged between 25 and 50 it is almost the perfect holiday destination: very high quality accommodation in peaceful surroundings, fabulous sandy beaches and as much (or as little) evening entertainment as you could wish for!
famous for its antiques fair. The superb, undeveloped beach of Salinas is well worth the trek to reach, whilst other lovely beaches include those at Cala Jondal, Cala Tarida, Gracioneta and Cala Comte. Some of the best known clubs include Privilege and Amnesia in San Rafael, Pacha in Eivissa, Es Paradis in San Antonio and Space in Playa den Bossa. Otherwise, a great day out would be the neighbouring island of Formentera, easily reached by ferry.
When to go
The nightclubs are mostly open from June to mid September and are very busy from mid July to end of August. However, if you are looking for a complete rest, May and October are wonderful times to visit the weather is warm, the crowds have disappeared but virtually everything except the clubs is still open!
Landscape and Resorts
Ibiza is known as the island of pine trees and much of the pretty interior is wooded. The best beaches are in the South and West of the island and they are great fun to explore. In the evenings there are few better sights than the sunsets over the sea in the West and North, and there are many beachside chill-out bars that are actually busier at this time than they are in the middle of the day! Eivissa (Ibiza Town) dates back to Phoenician times and the fortified DAlt Vila is a World Heritage Site. Here and around the harbour you will find superb restaurants and ultrafashionable shopping, as well as many interesting bars and cafes. San Antonio is the largest resort, set around a beautiful bay. The centre tends to cater for the youth market and has earned the whole island its yobbish reputation, but there are many quieter areas and pretty coves just outside the town, allowing visitors to combine the best of both worlds.
How to get there
Ibizas international airport now has many direct flights several days each week from most UK airports, including low-cost, scheduled and charter flights. All resorts are within 1 hours drive of the airport. In low season, there are also relatively cheap indirect scheduled flights via Barcelona. Many low-cost airlines operate night flights our owners are happy to accept late arrivals but please do tell us if you will be arriving at unsociable hours.
