Mallorca
An island paradise waiting to be re-discovered
The largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca enjoys a rich variation of scenery and style. From its beautiful and historic capital, Palma, bordered by popular mass market resorts, to the majestic West coast with its dramatic cliffs and untouched mountain scenery, from the stylish small ports and resorts of the South West to the tranquil rich farmland in the North and pretty beaches of Pollensa and Cala DOr in the East, it truly offers something for everyone.
Attractions
Palma, with its gothic cathedral, magnificent bay and fine shops and nightlife, is well worth a visit. Elsewhere, the prehistoric Caves of Drach, superb beaches and coves, and the historic villages of Valldemossa, Deya and Soller are popular attractions, but for most people gentle drives along the pretty country and dramatic mountain roads are the most popular excursions from their villa.
Landscape and Resorts
The beautiful Tramuntana mountains run the entire length of the North West coast and its rugged coastline is protected from development. Here you find the charming villages of Valldemossa and Deya, with their artistic communities, superb restaurants and unsurpassed views. The exclusive area of Andratx in the South West offers a relaxed pace with glittering marinas and impressive villas belonging to film stars. The Formentor peninsula, one of the original resorts of royalty, dominates the landscape around Pollensa, a pretty town with a charming central square and relaxed atmosphere. Nearby Puerto Pollensa and Cala San Vicente, backed by dramatic mountains and rural farmland, boast sandy beaches and a gentle pace of life, ideal for couples or families with children. Further South, Cala dOr is a modern, whitewashed, low rise resort built around several sandy coves. The surrounding countryside is pretty and very rural, with several quaint villages. Nearby, gorgeous unspoiled Cala Mondrago is one of the most beautiful bays in the Mediterranean.
Sport
In Spring and Autumn, Mallorca is very popular with walkers, who love the everchanging scenery and gentle pace of life. There are several golf courses on the island, whilst water sports and sailing are available in all the larger resorts.
How to get there
Palmas international airport now has many direct flights each day from most UK airports, including low-cost, scheduled and charter flights. All resorts are within 1 hours drive of the airport.
