Apulia...
Also known as Puglia, the Apulian peninsula in the southern `heel' of Italy has an unspoilt and fascinating character of its own. The sea is never more than 30 miles away and the beautiful coastline promises alluring beaches, craggy coves and traditional fishing villages, alive with the local way of life. The countryside is a patchwork of silver olive groves, neat vineyards and golden plains of wheat, with Apulia renowned for an abundance of prized Italian produce, including olive oil, pasta, fresh vegetables and seafood. Apulia is also scattered with medieval hill towns and fine examples of Byzantine, Roman, Moorish and Norman architecture, providing atmospheric reminders of foreign invaders through the ages. Another picturesque feature are the clusters of small, whitewashed `trulli' with distinctive beehive roofs.

· Discover the Apulian trulli
across the region and around 400 in the village of Alberobello alone. (To stay in a traditional trulli see properties IP007-9)
