Theres also a wealth of game in this reserve so explore the surrounds to search for rhinos resting beneath acacia trees, prides of powerful lions, gentle giraffes and more. Entering Uganda, experience the breathtaking beauty of the Bujagali Falls. The nearby Soft Power Education Centre, a charity organisation, helps local kids learn to read and write, so why not have fun lending a hand for a few hours? From painting murals to taking a class or hosting sport workshops, there are so many ways to help create a brighter future for these cute kids. Days 8-14 Gorilla trek/Nairobi Travel over dramatic mountains and through Ugandas ancient forests. This steamy rainforest derives its name from the dense vegetation that makes entry decidedly difficult, so come prepared with comfortable hiking boots, full water bottle and rain jacket. Tracking gorillas is a tremendous test of endurance but the time spent observing these gentle giants makes it totally worth it. The sight of the human-like creatures munching on branches, climbing trees and cradling babies is completely captivating and few wildlife experiences can compare. Then its back to Nairobi, a great place to indulge in a filling feast in one of the citys many excellent restaurants.

Days 3-4 ruhengeri Indulge in traditional food and tribal dancing at a village homestay in Ruhengeri. Day 5 lake kivu/Gisenyi Explore the lovely shores of Lake Kivu, Africas highest lake. Beachfront bars in Gisenyi are the best places to kick back. Day 6 Nyungwe National Park See enormous, historic Idjwi Island floating in the middle of a volcanic lake en route to Kibuye, one of Rwandas hidden gems. Day 7 chimpanzees & colobus Monkeys trek Experience the pinnacle of primate tourism in Nyungwe National Park - the only place in the world where more than five species can be found in a single location. Look out for chimps, black and white colobus monkeys, baboons and more. Day 8 kigali Stop at tiny Butare and check out the interesting National Museum for a lesson on Rwandan history. The Kigali Memorial Centre gives sobering insight on the genocide that sadly occurred only too recently in this landlocked country. Day 9 akagera Embark on a safari drive, cutting across the stunning Akagera National Park to spot graceful giraffes, handsome impalas and hippos spluttering in the river. Day 10 kigali Relax with a refreshing local brew in Kigali, the small capital bursting with colourful flora.
