When to go&
high season The migration reaches a climax as enormous herds of bleating, braying wildebeest, zebras and gazelles amass along the mighty Mara River, the final barrier between them and the green grasses of the Masai Mara. The river is full of waiting crocodiles and packs of hungry predators pick off the young, the weak and the injured. With cloudless skies and cool, crisp days, its also the best season to climb Mt Kilimanjaro as youll have unobstructed views of silvery glaciers from the summit. shoulder season The annual migration is complete, as the herds once again make their way south to the Serengeti to birth. The light rains have topped up the waterways and the regions waterfalls are a sight to behold, the spray from the great Bujagali Falls spectacularly rising into the air.

shoulder season Hot sun and blue skies stretch endlessly over the sunbeaten, rain-ripened grasses of the Serengeti National Park, a haven for herbivores such as wildebeest and zebras this season. Its also a time of rebirth as these animals calve, attracting the attentions of predators such as wild dogs, cheetahs and hyenas. Have your camera ready, because the Big Five are easiest to find now, seeking relief from the heat around the few remaining waterholes. low season The grazing herds move north and west, leaving the flat plains of the Serengeti behind for the rolling hills of the Great Rift Valley, on their eternal pilgrimage in search of sweeter grasses. The weather may be wet but long rains joyously swell waterways such as Naivasha, Manyara and Lake Bunyoni, which become all-aflutter with birdlife, hippos and crocodiles.
