temples carved smiling faces have eyes that seem to follow you wherever you go. Admire the intricately carved Terrace of the Leper King and stroll along the grand Elephant Terrace before heading to the most famous temple complex of them all - Angkor Wat. Learn the story behind each of its extraordinary bas-reliefs and overcome your fear of heights scaling the steep steps up to the temple turrets. Theres dizzying views from the top over the surrounding rainforest as well as the glistening moat. Days 2-3 Banteay srei/ta Prohm A highly recommended way to start the day is by watching the sunrise over Angkor Wat. Travel through rural countryside to the pink sandstone temple of Banteay Srei, a small but exquisitely carved structure, before visiting the atmospheric Ta Prohm, whose crumbling structures have been left to the ravages of the jungle. Later, take a boat cruise over Tonle Sap Lake and stop in at a floating fishing house to see how locals live. Enjoy a guided tour of the three pre-Angkorian temples of the Rolous group, Bakong, Preah Ko and Lolei . Their construction marked the beginning of a brilliant Khmer age. Day 4 siem reap Back at the base for this Angkor exploration, theres time to buy souvenirs, discover the delights of Siem Reap or enjoy a final taste of Khmer cuisine.
