the bustling Yuyuan Bazaar, see an acrobatic performance or soak up the citys hedonistic nightlife. Days 3-4 Xitang Trade modern for ancient and step back in time to Xitang for an overnight stay in a traditional guesthouse. Visit ancient villas and stroll down cobblestone streets alongside the many canals in town, perhaps stopping for a refreshment in a traditional teahouse. Explore the well-preserved Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings and absorb the old world atmosphere. Days 5-6 Xi'an Be charmed by the ancient ambience of Xian, alive with many fascinating historical sites just begging to be explored. Visit the Muslim Quarter and Great Mosque or taste exotic food from busy street stalls. Perhaps also take an optional visit to the famed army of Terracotta Warriors. Days 7-8 Pingyao The walled city of Pingyao offers a rare glimpse into the architecture of imperial China. Spend the day exploring the temples, houses and museums of this former commercial centre. There may be time to indulge in a relaxing massage. Days 9-12 Beijing/ Great Wall The grand city of Beijing is overflowing with ancient, imperial and modern sights. Stroll across Tiananmen Square, explore the Forbidden City, wander through the maze of hutongs or try out your bargaining skills at one of the many markets. An overnight stay at Chinas most iconic sight, the Great Wall, is a fitting end to the adventure and an exhilerating experience.

from the Chinese border to Guilin is a fascinating experience. Days 3-5 yangshuo Travel from Guilin into rural China. The Li River winds its way around thousands of limestone karst mountains through Yangshuo. Take a cycling tour into the countryside to gain an insight into rural life and eat lunch at a farmhouse or local cafe. Optional activities abound, so why not kayak down the river, learn to cook local cuisine or take a meditative tai chi class? Days 6-7 shanghai See a performance of the famous Shanghai acrobatics and spend free time exploring this thriving metropolis. Stroll along the Bund to see a spectacular array of art deco buildings, explore the old French Concession area or go in search of the ultimate Chinese feast. To get away from it all, head to Yuyuan Garden to seek out the Exquisite Jade Rock and take in the peaceful surrounds. Explore the treasures of the fascinating Shanghai Museum. Days 8-10 Xi'an Visit the famous Terracotta Warriors, who lay undiscovered for 2,200 years. These ancient figures lined up facing east in battle formation. Explore the sights of the former imperial city of Xian. Days 11-14 Beijing Visit Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City with your knowledgable local guide. The Great Wall, an incredible feat of engineering, stretches westwards over 6,000 km from the mountain ridges north of Beijing. See it up close on a day trip before a final night out in lively Beijing.
