and delve into the magical history of Durbar Square in the Old City. Day 3 Bhaktapur The ancient city of Bhaktapur is a haven of intricate temples, grand palaces and vibrant courtyards. Few cars enter the Old City, so wandering through the paved streets and narrow alleyways it is easy to get a sense of what Kathmandu was like before the modern world came knocking. Day 4 Pokhara Temples and palaces are replaced by soaring mountains and glass-like lakes. Once a vibrant trade route between India and Tibet, Pokhara later became a hippy hangout. These days it is the gateway to some of Nepals greatest treks. Days 5-14 annapurna ranges Trek through lowland pastures, past peaceful villages, thundering waterfalls and powerful glaciers, surrounded always by unspeakably beautiful mountainscapes. While trekking the Annapurna Sanctuary is challenging, it allows you to experience the Nepalese mountains without the major issues associated with high altitude. The optional trek to the Annapurna base camp (4,130 m) is as high as we go. Staying in basic teahouses operated by the locals offers us the opportunity to learn about the daily lives of the Nepali hill people. Days 15-16 Pokhara The final trek is downhill all the way, a welcoming change from days of climbing. Back in Pokhara there is plenty of time to relax, recover and reminisce about the Annapurnas over a final feast or steaming chai.
