15 days, Negombo to Colombo
itiNerary... Day 1 Negombo Find a comfortable perch to watch local fishing boats, head out to sea or stroll along the beach to see the daily catch drying in the sun. Days 2-3 anuradhapura *plus Local Payment US$200
Physical culture shock
Step back in time with a visit to the 12th century palace at Panduwasnuwara and the rock fortress of Yapahuwa. Tour Sri Lankas most important ancient city, Anuradhapura, by bicycle. Day 4 Polonnaruwa Jump on the bikes once more and explore the remains of the 1,000 year old city of Polonnaruwa. Sri Lankas famous granite Buddha sleeps peacefully among the ruins. Day 5 Dambulla caves/sigiriya Under a heavy rock overhang sits the Dambulla Cave Temple, home to some 150 Buddha images. Days 6-7 kandy Stop to savour the fragrant smells of spice and herb gardens before heading to the cooler climate of Kandy to enjoy a performance of traditional dancing and firewalking. Days 8-10 Bandarawela/haputale Learn how to turn fresh ingredients into a delicious feast at a cooking demonstration and take a walk through picturesque tea plantations. Days 11-12 Mirissa Soak up the sun, relax on the beach and take a dip in the calm clear waters of Mirissa. For the more active there is the option of hiring a bike and riding to nearby fishing villages. Day 13 Galle Observe Hindu rituals at morning prayers and explore the colonial town of Galle. Watch the sunset from the ramparts of the towns fort. Days 14-15 colombo Say goodbye to the lovely Sri Lankan coast and catch up on some shopping in the countrys commercial heart.
