mighty Pantheon or discover the many pretty fountains and piazzas that dot this marvellous city. Day 3 Naples The Phoenicians, Venetians, Africans and, of course, Romans have all left their mark on this compelling port city. There is also plenty of time to discover the citys modern side: wander through the heaving street markets and sample some world-famous Neopolitan pizza - the original, and some claim, the best. The towns remains lay covered in ash until its rediscovery in the 18th century. Wander through these amazing ruins before trekking up the sleeping giant of Mt Vesuvius, for a truly awe-inspiring insight into the power of nature. Days 6-9 amalfi coast Enjoy rocky coastlines, azure seas and clear blue skies from the picture-perfect town of Sorrento. This has been a favourite tourist destination for at least 200 years and its easy to see why. phere of the Piazza del Campo and catch sweeping views of the surrounding countryside while roaming the meandering streets. A taste-testing visit to an enoteca is sure to delight. Days 3-4 chianti region Take the opportunity to explore the beautiful region that produces Italys most famous red wine, and perhaps grab a few bottles to take home. Get some fresh air cycling across the rolling hills of Tuscany, known for its stunning landscapes and artistic heritage of architecture, painting and sculpture. Day 5 Florence Tuscanys cultural heart bursts with religious treasures and Renaissance masterpieces. Take a walk past the famous sites, including the lofty dome of the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio. It is said that out of the 1000 most important European artists of the second millennium, a third lived in Florence. With that in mind, it is well worth visiting the Uffizi gallery, home to artworks by masters such as Botticelli, Caravaggio and Raphael. Days 6-8 Pisa and cinque terre Uncover the story behind the gravity-defying Leaning Tower of Pisa and consider climbing its stairs for a different perspective. Later, head to the famed five lands of Italy and hike along the coastal path that connects the pastel-coloured villages of the Cinque Terre. The vistas along the way are incredible, with cliffs dotted with olive groves plunging steeply into the azure sea. Explore the villages along the way, perhaps stopping for a fresh seafood lunch.
