Day 1 lima Head out on a guided orientation walk to become familiar with the points of interest in this historic city. Flanked by streets of ornate colonial mansions, palaces and church*plus Local Payment US$400 Physical culture shock es, Plaza Mayor is the best place to start any exploration of Lima. Take a walk through the old streets to get a feel for colonial life. Day 2 cuzco Visit the continents oldest continuously inhabited city, home to the Incas for two centuries before the Spanish built their capital on this site. History is alive here, both in the streets and the many fine museums. Day 3 sacred Valley Known as Wilcamayo to the Incas, the fertile Sacred Valley is a great place to see charming villages, brightly dressed locals and lots of llamas. Stay in a small town that is a magnificent example of Inca urban planning. It is especially admired for the huge terraces that guard the great templefortress that clings to cliffs Days 4-7 inca trail Hike the iconic Inca Trail, waiting for that moment that the Sun Gate comes into view. From there, enter the magical world of Machu Picchu. Day 8 cuzco Recover from the hike in busy Cuzco. Drop into a cafe to celebrate the journey with a Pisco Sour - a clear local brandy mixed with egg whites and lemon. Day 1 lima The Plaza Mayor, in the heart of Limas historic centre, is an excellent place to get a feel for Perus colonial past. Nearby, the Museo de la Inquisicion offers an insight into the Spanish Inquisition and the beautiful Monasterio de San Francisco houses some fascinating catacombs. Day 2 cuzco An intriguing blend of Inca and Spanish architecture, there is plenty to see and do in Cuzco. Take a walking tour to get acquainted with some of the lesser known sights of this wonderful town. Day 3 sacred Valley Visit Pisac with its famous artisan market and travel through the fertile Sacred Valley, where most of the regions fresh produce is grown. Look out for the maize crops surrounding the river and covering the terraces, carved high into the valley walls - these crops have long been the main source of food for the high Andes. Days 4-7 inca trail Trek along one of the trails that once linked the Inca Empire. The ancient paths wind past mountains, across high plateaus and through dense cloud forest and temple ruins. On the final day, climb the steps to Intipunku, the Sun Gate, and watch Machu Picchu rising from the mist. Rest for a moment before striking out to uncover the mystery of these amazing Inca ruins. Day 8 cuzco For an active farewell to Peru, its possible to explore the Urubamba River or go mountain biking through the Sacred Valley. For those with weary legs, head to Plaza de Armas to chill-out in a cafe and enjoy free time to relax, shop and explore more of Cuzcos sights.
