itiNerary... Days 1-3 Playa del carmen Snorkel among the mangroves and get a taste for refreshing margaritas. Its possible to take a trip to infamous Cancun and frolic in the surf or hit the many bars. Days 4-5 caye caulker Lie on the beach, go for a swim or stroll around the sandy island. Theres an opportunity to go manatee (sea cow) spotting and take in these huge, curious creatures. Days 6-7 san ignacio Tucked between forested hills and gushing rivers, optional activities abound - wander through the butterfly garden or canoe through limestone caves. Days 8-9 tikal/Flores In this island town many locals still get about by canoe. Why not visit Tikal to explore the maze of structures scattered through the jungle? Those feeling fit can clamber up the worlds highest Mayan structure. Days 10-11 rio Dulce Travel through the dense jungle of the Peten to Rio Dulce. Perhaps take a lancha up the river to visit nearby hot springs, a rubber plantation and an old Spanish fort. Day 12 antigua Discover this citys charms by strolling around the little streets. Days 1314 chichicastenango/lake atitlan Hone those bargaining skills at the famous markets of Chichicastenango, filled with colourful handicrafts and medicinal plants. Explore Lake Atitlan by boat and the volcanic countryside by bike or foot. Days 15-17 antigua Fuelled by a cup of Guatemalan coffee, take to Antiguas streets to explore the beautiful colonial buildings, set against a backdrop of volcanoes. In the late afternoon, hang out with the locals in Central Park and reflect on a great adventure.

Day 2 chichen itza/Merida These pyramids rival those of Egypt. The piece de resistance here is El Castillo, best known for its amazing carved snakes. Days 3-4 Palenque The ruins here are like nothing else. A climb to the top gives endless views of the jungle; enjoy the lush surrounds and waterfalls. Days 5-6 san cristobal de las casas Enjoy the stunning Chiapas highlands.The villages here mix Catholicism and indigenous religion to create a fascinating hybrid. Why not pop into Cafe Museo Cafe to to learn about coffee production in the region and relax with a steaming brew? Days 7-8 Panajachel Panajachel is an excellent base to explore this fascinating area. Days 9-10 chichicastenango/antigua Visit the markets before stopping in Antigua. Its possible to climb a volcano, go mountain biking or explore the many churches. Day 11 Flores/tikal Watch the sun set over Tikal. Stay overnight in the park for a magical guided visit to the ruins at dawn. Look out for colourful birdlife. Days 12-13 san ignacio This town is surrounded by fast flowing rivers and forested hills. Consider a trip to one of the Mayan sites in the area. Days 14-15 Playa del carmen Wind down from the trip with some laid-back seaside activities.
