Explore its medieval streets and bustling palazzo, or search the shops for the citys famous alabaster stoneware  which has been in continuous production since the 5th century BC. The famous Ombra della Sera, or Shadow of the Night, is an elongated Etruscan statue on show in one of Italys major archaeological museums the Museo Guarnacci. The following towns are also a must-see for visitors to the region: Florence Home of Dante, Machiavelli, Michelangelo and the Medici, Florence is overflowing with art, culture and history. Many of its major sights are easy to tour on foot, including the magnificent Duomo; Piazza della Signoria - the citys civic showpiece; and the Uffizi Gallery full of Renaissance masterpieces. Pisa The Leaning Tower is of course Pisas main attraction, but it also belongs with three more medieval masterpieces to form the collective Field of Miracles  including the Duomo cathedral, the Baptistry and the Camposanto Holy Field. Or head into the main town where youll find plenty more ancient treasures. As a university town, reasonably-priced shops and restaurants away from the main tourist area can also be found.
