Christmas and New Year Canarian Style TNS239 Christmas: Celebrate this Christmas in the sunny, serene climate that abounds the port city of Santa Cruz de La Palma. Escape the layers of clothes and the endless TV re-runs and get into the swing of things. Treat yourself with a chilled glass of Cava whilst soaking up the atmosphere of live music and dancing fever that takes hold of the city during the wonderful Christmas fiesta of peace and friendship. Dont despair! You wont miss out on all the things you love about Christmas Day as it kicks off with Bucks Fizz and smoked salmon, followed later by a traditional feast with all the trimmings! Of course the live music on the quayside will add an exotic twist to what could possibly be your best Christmas Day yet. New Year: If the thought of New Years Eve turns your mind to nights that didnt quite stand up to the hype then why not ensure this New Years Eve is one you wont forget. Experience sailing in the company of tall ships from around the world bound for one of the two capitals of the Canary Islands, Santa Cruz de Tenerife or Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Both cities are famous for their spectacular celebrations, on what traditionally for Canary Islanders is the main event of the festive period. On the night the Canarians call Nochevieja (which translates to Old Years Night) stare in awe at the dazzling firework displays that mark the climax of a festive extravaganza. The party continues on in the form of Verbenas, all night street parties with live music from around the world - the sheer vibrancy of this spectacular night will ensure you wont forget your New Year spent with the JST in a hurry! Twenty four hours of 2007 to go! It was still a gorgeous night and star gazers were all around. Venus was seen before a stunning sunrise as the new ship Queen Victoria glided past us on the horizon! We were headed due north from Las Palmas to Tenerife with the wind in our sails. We docked at Santa Cruz de Tenerife between 3-4pm ready to start our New Year festivities! It was then time to get ready for our New Years Eve Gala Banquet! The officers from the new Queen Victoria cruise liner came on board to view the ship and to wish everybody a Happy New Year. After a brief interlude the upper mess opened for photos of the outstanding display of food which was presented to us by Gerry. Then we all started to tuck in, the wine flowed and the laughter commenced. Then midnight struck and 07 was rung out by David, our oldest crew member and then 08 was rung in by Olivia our youngest crew member. Then fireworks lit up the night sky like precious diamonds for a full 25 spectacular minutes. The ships horns sounded happiness all around us. Voyage Crew Member LN682 Gran Canaria Beware! The secrets out& Although there are many airlines with scheduled flights to the Canaries at this time of year, these beautiful islands are becoming a very popular destination due to great weather year round. We recommend booking voyages as early as possible particularly over the festive period to avoid disappointment. Page 8 | Did you know: Over 700 people with epilepsy have sailed with us.
