Discover the Majestic Canaries Sailing aboard a JST tall ship youll have the unique opportunity to take in the beauty of these remarkable islands from the sea, as well as taking the opportunity to explore ashore. Whatever your voyage involves, one things for certain, theres a whole lot more to the Canary Islands than meets the eye& The islands are a treasure trove of dramatic volcanic features, stunning scenery, diverse wildlife and tiny unspoilt fishing villages, yet each has its very own individual identity. Surrounded on one flank by the African continent and on the other by the vast expanse of the Atlantic, the islands enjoy some fantastic winds which ensure there is an abundance of great sailing to be had throughout the year. For the ultimate adventure this season, join our passage voyage TNS233 and sail non-stop to the Canaries from Southampton. If theres time you can visit the natural swimming pools Pozo de Las Calcosas and Tarmaduste created by the famous El Tesoro volcano or visit the striking red sand beaches. Alternatively visit the lush forests and unspoiled landscapes inland before having a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants El Hierro whilst enjoying some of the jaw dropping panoramic views. I arrived in Las Palmas with what I thought were unrealistic expectations, how wrong I was! The weather was warm and sunny, the surroundings and the ship were beautiful. In the morning of the second day we donned harnesses and climbed the mast, when volunteers were asked to set the sails, whilst the ship was in the open water! Leaning over a yard arm 20 feet in the air, untying ropes whilst the sea speeds underneath you is an indescribable experience! This was definitely one of my favourite experiences of the voyage. Tending the sails was the most physically demanding time spent on the ship, hauling the ropes is not called sweating for nothing! However, there was always a sense of camaraderie when several watches joined together in the hauling of a particularly troublesome line, especially when chanting 2&6&HEAVE!
