Your resort, the pretty town of Altenahr, with its countless half-timbered old buildings, is situated at one of the most scenic spots in the Ahr Valley. The steep slopes of the valley are clad in vines which produce the famous red wines of the region. There is a good selection of shops, bars, cafés and restaurants, whilst activities include walking, riding, tennis, mini-golf and more.

YOUR HOTEL
You will stay in the comfortable Hotel Zum Weissen Kreuz, centrally situated in Altenahr. Run by the Hoppe family, the hotel has a bar, restaurant, and lift. All bedrooms have private bathroom and some have a balcony.

YOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1 - Local departure by coach and a mid-morning crossing to Calais. Early evening arrival in Altenahr for a four night stay. Welcome drink and dinner. DAYS 2 TO 4 - Free to relax and enjoy our excursion programme. The following are included: Introduction to Altenahr - Walk into the hills around the resort and enjoy the views on the way. If you are keen for more, take a stroll around the picturesque Langfigtal Nature Reserve just outside the town (approx. 2 hours walk). Red Wine Trail - We follow the scenic trails through the Ahr Valley directly from your resort. After a guided morning walk along the famous Red Wine Trail (approx. 3 hours walk), we meet the coach and continue to the pretty, old walled town of Ahrweiler. Explore or relax in Ahrweiler before a return coach transfer back to your hotel. Eifel Explorer - We enjoy a walk in the surrounding Eifel Hills, followed by a visit to the charming medieval town of Bad Münstereifel, returning to your hotel via the giant radiotelescope (approx. 2 hours walk). Music & Wine Evenings - On one evening there will be live music in the hotel and an included wine tasting on another. DAY 5 - Depart after breakfast for a late afternoon crossing back to the UK, returning to your original departure point in the evening.

WALKING INFORMATION
Our walks require a reasonable level of fitness and ideally some previous walking experience. You will need comfortable walking boots, a small rucksack, waterproofs, a hat and sunglasses. A local guide will also accompany you on your walks. Grade 1 Walks These are for anyone of any age. Plenty of rest stops and time to enjoy the local scenery with up to 4 hours walking a day, mostly on good paths but occasionally rough underfoot. Ascent less than 300m per day.
