Our walks require a reasonable level of fitness and ideally some previous walking experience. You will need comfortable walking boots, a small rucksack, waterproofs, a hat and sunglasses. A local guide will also accompany you on your walks. Grade 2 Walks These are moderate, for anyone who is comfortable walking hills. Still plenty of time to rest and enjoy the scenery, however up to 5 hours walking a day on slightly more rugged terrain. Ascent less than 500m per day.
The delightful Greek harbour town of Karystos on the beautiful and historic island of Evia is your base for this exciting Greek holiday. Its like taking a step back in time. Fabulous walks offering local colour, fascinating history, scenic beauty and superb sightseeing are all on the menu for a wonderful and relaxing week.
YOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1 - Meet your travelling companions at the airport and depart on your scheduled flight to Athens. Transfer by coach and ferry to your hotel in Karystos for a seven night stay. On arrival enjoy a welcome drink followed by dinner. DAYS 2 TO 7 - Free to enjoy our included excursions, walks and activities as follows: Karystos - An introductory three-quarter day excursion featuring an orientation walk of Karystos, where we see traditional Greek pastelli (honey and sesame bars) being made. Aetos Village Walk - A three-quarter day excursion to Aetos, via Pannagia Chapel. We follow the hillside paths back down to the seafront (approx 3 hours walk). Grabia Village Walk - A leisurely full day walking tour from Grabia to Mili, via St. Kathryn Chapel, Castello Rosso (Red Castle) overlooking Karystos Town and the remains of a Roman aqueduct (approx 4 hours walk). We also enjoy a pasta making demonstration. Roman Remains & Wine Tasting - This full day tour takes you to Kilindri then on to Paleohora (old town) and the Montofoli Vineyard with a chance to sample some wine (approx 4 hours walk). Shepherds Walk - A full day out following shepherds paths through unspoilt countryside, past pretty villages, ancient churches and monuments (approx 4 hours walk). Lunch is included in Lala Village. The following excursion is optional: Marmara - Enjoy stunning views of the sea as you walk along paths towards the coast and down towards the picturesque harbour of Marmara (approx 3 hours walk). On the final evening enjoy a farewell get-together.. DAY 8 - Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
YOUR HOTEL
Hotel Karystian was tastefully renovated in 2002, and is ideally situated overlooking the sea. The ground floor reception and lobby open onto a lower breakfast/dining room and lounge. All rooms have a hairdryer, air-conditioning, satellite TV and balcony with sea view.
