tueSDaY 23rD - Meet your travelling companions at the airport prior to your scheduled flight to Oporto. On arrival we transfer to our hotel in the coastal resort of Figueira da Foz with its lovely sandy beaches, shops and excellent seafood restaurants. Enjoy a welcome drink before dinner this evening. CHriStMaS eVe - Our included three-quarter day excursion today takes us to explore beautiful Coimbra, the former Portuguese capital perched on the hills above the River Mondego. We will visit the university, one of the oldest and most prestigious in the country, and see its stunning library with ornate frescoes and gilded bookcases that house over three million books. We also have time to wander around the fascinating narrow alleys and stepped streets. We return to the hotel for a traditional Portuguese style Christmas Eve dinner tonight. CHriStMaS DaY - After breakfast we set off on an included three-quarter day scenic tour. Our first stop is the lovely medieval walled town of Obidos for a stroll around the cobbled streets and whitewashed houses and time to admire the stunning views from the golden towers, battlements and ramparts. We continue to the pretty seaside town of Nazare to wander through the fascinating Fishermans Quarter and picturesque Praia area. We enjoy a festive Christmas dinner and folklore show at the hotel this evening. BoXinG DaY - We spend the day discovering the delights of Oporto, Portugals second city on the banks of the River Douro, which is criss-crossed by ornate bridges including one designed by the famous Frenchman Gustave Eiffel. Well see the impressive Roman cathedral and the Moorish style Bolsa Palace in the historic town centre, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known worldwide as the home of port wine, no trip would be complete without visiting the famous Vila Nova de Gaia wine cellars for a tasting or two. Tonight we will meet up for a farewell get-together before enjoying dinner and live music at the hotel. SaturDaY 27tH - Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
