Madeira, referred to as the Pearl in the Atlantic and described as a floating garden, is a magical place to celebrate Christmas. This welcoming island, with its fabulous sub-tropical climate and famous wine, is home to a wealth of flora and fauna, gorgeous gardens, lovely villages and breathtaking views of volcanic mountains and lush slopes, contrasting with the deep blue ocean. The Portuguese influence is everywhere particularly among the flower sellers who still wear traditional costumes. You will be staying in a four star hotel a short distance from the lively capital Funchal so you can really unwind and have some festive fun.

tueSDaY 23rD - Meet your travelling companions at the airport and depart on your scheduled flight to Funchal. Transfer to your hotel for a five night stay. Enjoy a welcome drink on arrival. CHriStMaS eVe - Today we include a half day introductory tour of Funchal featuring a visit to a local market, the Botanical Gardens and the old quarter. The charming capital offers an excellent range of shops, bars and restaurants. Take a gentle stroll through the lovely cobbled streets of whitewashed houses, with their characteristic red roofs. Relax for a while in one of the pavement cafes overlooking the picturesque harbour. Enjoy a special festive dinner at the hotel in the evening. CHriStMaS DaY, BoXinG DaY & SaturDaY 27tH DeCeMBer - Free to relax with a selection of optional excursions such as: West Coast Tour - A full day tour featuring the main sights along the west coast, and the central part of the island, including a stop at the marvellous Encumeada Belvedere, from where both sides of the island can be seen. East Coast Tour - A full day tour taking in the Pico Do Areeiro, the highest mountain in Madeira, and following the stunning north coast of the island. A visit will also be made at Camacha Village, home to the famous Wickerwork Centre. SunDaY 28tH - Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. HoliDaY

You will stay at the four star Hotel Baia Azul, situated in a quiet location, just two miles from the centre of Funchal. Hotel amenities include a restaurant with panoramic sea views, bar, coffee shop and lift. Leisure facilities include an outdoor heated swimming pool, squash court, gym, table tennis plus at extra cost, a sauna and jacuzzi. Bedrooms are comfortably furnished and feature private facilities, satellite TV, hairdryer, air-conditioning, minibar and safe. All bedrooms have their own balcony and sea view rooms are available at a supplement. There is entertainment provided on most evenings and during the day a courtesy bus operates between the hotel and the centre of Funchal.
