Rome is the superb destination for this fabulous Christmas break. It is one of Europes most captivating cities, with a unique and vibrant atmosphere. The historic attractions are the stuff of legend. You can visit and marvel at the fabled Colosseum, the Spanish Steps and the Vatican and, superstition has it, that a coin thrown into the famous Trevi Fountain ensures your return.
Thats not all Italys fabulous capital has to offer. You can enjoy the timeless architecture, browse through the fabulously stylish shops and theres no shortage of excellent restaurants to experience. And when you need a break, you can sip a drink and relax at a pavement café as the hectic pace of Roman life goes on around you. The superb sightseeing and wonderful cosmopolitan flavour are the magic ingredients that make travellers fall in love with the Eternal City. residence was built in the 16th century by Pirro Ligorio from the shell of an old Benedictine monastery. Its splendid gardens, featuring many fountains and formal terraces, give an insight into the frivolous luxury enjoyed by the papal families. We return to the hotel for a farewell get-together and dinner this evening before an included Rome by Night excursion. We will drive along the Via Veneto to view the illuminated delights of Rome, such as the Piazza Venezia, Mussolinis former home, the Colosseum and Forum, the Vatican and St. Peters Basilica. SaturDaY 27tH - Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.

tueSDaY 23rD - Meet your travelling companions at the airport and depart on your scheduled flight to Rome. On arrival transfer to your hotel for a four night stay. Enjoy a welcome drink and dinner this evening. CHriStMaS eVe - Join our included full day tour of Rome, with an official local guide. This comprehensive tour shows you the main sights of this fascinating city. In the ancient quarter youll see the Colosseum, perhaps Romes most enduring symbol. A host of other historic attractions includes the magnificent St. Peters Basilica, which dominates the view with its impressive dome, the Vatican City Museum which has one of the worlds most impressive collections of art and antiquities, and the stunning Sistine Chapel with its famous ceiling painted by Michelangelo. You will also visit the Spanish Steps in the beautiful Piazza di Spagna and the famous Trevi Fountain. There will be free time for you to browse in the designer shops or stop for a coffee in one of the charming cafés. In the evening enjoy a traditional festive Christmas Eve dinner back at your hotel. CHriStMaS DaY - Late morning transfer to St. Peters Square to hear Pope Benedict XVIs Christmas Day blessing followed by an included panoramic tour of Ostia Antica, the ancient Roman port. The well-preserved site houses an amphitheatre and mosaics depicting everyday life under the Roman Empire. You can wander along the Roman streets and see the ruts cut into the ancient cobbles by their chariots. We return to the hotel for afternoon tea or coffee followed by a Christmas dinner with live music and dancing this evening.
