This evening join our optional dinner at the River City casino. Meals: B day 5 springfield This morning we head to another Springfield, the gateway to the Ozark Mountains. It was here on April 30, 1926 that officials first proposed the name of this now famous highway. We include a city tour before we transfer to our hotel for an overnight stay. This evening, why not join our optional excursion to Branson, the entertainment capital of the USA. Meals: B day 6 oklahoma Today we continue along the most historical section of Route 66, through `cowboy country' and along the Cherokee Strip. We will stop at the cultural capital, Tulsa, before we continue to Oklahoma City, where we will stay for two nights. Meals: B day 7 oklahoma The lure of wide open space and free land brought the first settlers to Oklahoma City in 1889. On our included tour we visit the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, Heritage Centre, the State Capitol and Crystal Bridge. This afternoon explore at leisure. Beautiful architecture old and new, sublime waterfront and beaches and a superb cultural heart. A half-day city tour is included. The actual roads have, of course, been modernised, but the spirit of the route remains, especially in small towns where 24-hour diners and hot apple pie are still a way of life. We'll stop in the state capital of Illinois, Springfield before we continue into the state of Missouri and the city of St Louis, where we stay for two nights.
