Built in 1115 to guard the road from Damascus to Egypt, this crusaders' castle boasts an impressive exterior with a forbidding gate and an encircling wall which is three layers thick. On arrival in Petra we'll check into our hotel where we will stay for the next two nights. Meals: B/D day 5 Petra We'll spend the day in Petra today. Petra was abandoned in the 4th Century and rediscovered in 1812. The `Red Rose City' is an astounding sight as you enter through the Siq, a narrow gorge flanked either side by imposing cliffs. Catch your first glimpse of the Treasury, perhaps Petra's most famous monument, before discovering more beautifully carved facades as the ancient city unfolds. On this evening's included excursion Petra will take on a whole new look. Some 1,800 candles will light your way through the Siq to the Treasury where you will enjoy the haunting music of the Bedouin. Meals: B/D day 6 Wadi Rum After breakfast this morning we'll head into the desert wilderness of Wadi Rum to take a 4x4 vehicle drive through the dunes. Explore the towering rock skyscrapers forged by nature before we take tea with the Bedouins. Sit back and relax with your nomadic hosts and take in the tranquil surroundings before our journey continues to our beach hotel in Aqaba, on the shores of the Red Sea for two nights. Meals: B/D day 7 aqaba After much sightseeing we enjoy our final day at leisure. There is direct access to the beach from your hotel, where the crystal-clear waters are home to more than 1,000 species of tropical fish. Or why not take a stroll around the streets of Aqaba town, which is just a few kilometers away. Enjoy a farewell get-together with your travelling companions this evening.
