Beautiful Tuscany and magnificent Lake Maggiore are brought together on this superb two-centre holiday. This fabulous itinerary allows you time to explore these two contrasting regions as well as enjoy some wonderful excursions.
YOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1 Meet your travelling companions at the airport and depart on your scheduled flight to Bologna. On arrival, transfer to your Tuscany hotel for a five night stay. In the evening enjoy a welcome drink before dinner. DAYS 2 TO 5 Free to relax and enjoy our programme of excursions. We include the following: Pisa - A half day trip to this famous town, home of the amazing Leaning Tower, in the Field of Miracles. The following excursions are optional: Florence - A full day tour to the `City of Art', home of Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci, a wonderful cathedral and some excellent shopping (includes a city guide). San Gimignano & Siena - A scenic drive through the classic Tuscan hills, visiting lovely San Gimignano and the well preserved medieval town of Siena. Lucca - A half day visit to this historic town, complete with medieval walkable ramparts. DAY 6 Today we leave Tuscany and head north, calling in at the lovely coastal resort of Portofino, before continuing to your hotel at Lake Maggiore for a five night stay. DAYS 7 TO 10 Free to relax and enjoy our excursion programme. The following is included: Lake Maggiore & the Borromean Islands - A three-quarter day excursion by boat visiting the Borromean islands of Isola Pescatori and Isola Bella with its beautiful palace and gardens. The following excursions are optional: Centovalli Railway - A superb scenic train ride (approx 90 mins' duration) across `a hundred valleys' to Locarno, is the highlight of this full day excursion, (return by ferry). Milan - Visit Italy's capital of style and fashion on this full day excursion. Sights include Sforzesco Castle, the shopping Gallerie and the famous Duomo cathedral (includes city guide). Zermatt - Our full day excursion features a scenic coach journey across the border into Switzerland followed by a short train ride from Tasch in the Matter Valley to the famous mountain resort of Zermatt dominated by the awe-inspiring Matterhorn. On the final evening enjoy a farewell get-together. DAY 11 Transfer to Turin Airport for your return flight to the UK
