This special departure is a fabulous opportunity to discover the history and scenery of beautiful southern Poland, from Zakopane in the pine-clad Tatra Mountains to famous Krakow. After two nights in Prague, three nights in Vienna and two in Budapest, transfer by coach on Day 8 through Slovakia to the pretty, alpine town of Zakopane, Poland's best known resort, at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. Over the years it has grown from a tiny village into a popular holiday resort offering many amenities, yet managing to retain its strong local traditions and folkloric customs. Our included tour features a short orientation walk around the town, followed by a scenic drive through the magnificent landscape of the surrounding mountains. We take a trip to explore the great cultural city of Krakow with its strong sense of history, located in the south-east of Poland. The magnificent Market Square is the heart of the city and other places of interest include the impressive Wawel Palace and beautiful old Kanonicze Street. The historic old quarter is a treasure trove of architectural works of art just waiting to be discovered. The university dates back to 1364 and Krakow's citizens are rightly proud of their local heritage. Optional excursions will take you to see the incredible underground caverns at the Wieliczka Salt Mine, rafting on traditional wooden rafts along the Dunajec river and on a drive through the breathtakingly beautiful Tatra National Park to Morskie Oko Lake with a horse and carriage ride to Wlosienica. Y You will stay for three nights on a half board basis at the Hotel Telimena or similar, in Zakopane. The hotel has a bar, restaurant and café and all bedrooms have private facilities, TV and telephone. Transfer to Krakow airport on Day 11 for your return flight to the UK.
