YOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1 Meet your travelling companions at the airport and depart on your scheduled flight to Lisbon. On arrival, transfer to your hotel in Ericeira for a 3 night stay. Enjoy a welcome drink before dinner this evening. DAY 2 Enjoy our full day excursion to explore the amazing city of Sintra with its magnificent Royal Palace, the former home of the Moorish kings. We continue to the popular resort of Cascais and stroll round the picturesque streets, before visiting Estoril with its famous gardens and casino. DAY 3 We visit Lisbon, Portugal's stylish capital for a guided tour of the historic squares and grand 18th century mansions, contrasting with the quaint cobbled streets and steep staircases of the Alfama. DAY 4 We drive to the attractive little town of Nelas in the mountainous Beira Alta region for a one night stay, stopping en route at the medieval walled town of Obidos and the traditional fishing village of Nazaré. DAY 5 Our full day excursion takes us to see the shrine of Nossa Senhora dos Remedios, perched high above the medieval pilgrimage town of Lamego, and the Casa de Mateus, the ornate palace and familiar symbol of the famous Mateus Rose wine, before reaching Amarante for a three night stay. DAY 6 Today we explore the lively city of Oporto, with its splendid bridges spanning the River Douro, cathedral and historic buildings. Home to the famous port wine, we will tour one of the fine lodges and enjoy a tasting or two. DAY 7 We visit the historic estate of Quinta da Aveleda and a chance to sample its fine brandy, red wines and famous Vinho Verde. Enjoy a Farewell get-together this evening. DAY 8 Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
YOUR HOTELS
In Ericeira you will stay at the excellent, modern Hotel Vila Gale right on the beach with bar and restaurant overlooking the sea. The country house Hotel Urgeirica in Nelas has the air of a grand English mansion. It has a swimming pool, tennis courts, solarium, restaurant and bar. Formerly a grand private residence, the charming Casa da Calçada Relais & Chateaux in Amarante has been lovely restored to its original splendour. The hotel has bar, restaurant serving local dishes and lounge with billiard and card tables. All bedrooms feature private facilities, air-conditioning, TV, telephone, hairdryer and minibar.
