The Black Forest is one of Germany's most popular holiday regions, astonishingly like the countryside you see in fairy tale story books. There are deep forests, winding rivers, rolling hills, pretty villages with friendly shopkeepers, genial innkeepers and cuckoo clock makers.
Y You will stay in the pretty village of Oberharmersbach, situated in the central Black Forest region. Here you can find traditional, half-timbered houses which have been passed down through many generations DAY 7 Continue to Calais for a late afternoon crossing back to the UK and return to your original departure point in the evening.

YOUR HOTEL
Y You will stay in the comfortable Hotel Bären, run by the Kuber family in the village of Oberharmersbach. The hotel is built in the traditional Black Forest style, it has a lift, restaurant, bar, and comfortable bedrooms with private facilities.
YOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1 Local departure by coach and a mid-morning crossing to Calais. Continue to your overnight stop in the Reims area of France on a bed and breakfast basis. DAY 2 We drive to Metz with time for a stroll around the historic centre, before continuing south-east to the central Black Forest area in Germany for a four night stay. DAYS 3 TO 5 Free to relax and enjoy our included excursions: Black Forest - A scenic full day tour, visiting Donaueschingen, the source of the River Danube, then continuing to Offenburg by train on the spectacular Schwarzwaldbahn railway line. Lake Titisee & Staufen - A full day excursion visiting beautiful Lake Titisee, the largest lake in the area and a popular resort where you can enjoy a stroll along the shore. Continue to Staufen, a lovely old town surrounded by vineyards, with cobbled streets and medieval houses. There will also be time to visit delightful Freiburg, one of Germany's most attractive towns with its impressive Gothic cathedral and quaint shopping streets. The following excursion is optional: Alsace Highlights - A three-quarter day tour across the border into France for a visit to Strasbourg. Strasbourg has a rich history and a lovely old quarter of half-timbered houses and narrow streets. We also visit picturesque Colmar with its delightful old town and quaint canal quarter, known as `Petite Venise' or `Little Venice'. DAY 6 Leaving the Black Forest, another highlight is an included visit to the lovely city of Heidelberg, on the river Neckar, dominated by its famous castle. In the late afternoon we arrive in the beautiful Moselle Valley area for an overnight stop on a half board basis and enjoy our farewell get-together.

Available on date marked with an * On this special departure we offer 3 days walking with a local guide. These walks will replace the included excursions in the main itinerary. Oberharmersbach is ideally located to explore the surrounding countryside, we make use of our coach so that you can get a little further afield. With more than 100km of marked footpaths in this area, there will be a mix of gentle and slightly more challenging walking. You may like to hike to the top of the Y Brandenkopf for the beautiful views.
