Discover the remarkable treasures of Jordans ancient civilisation and enjoy the unique experience of floating in the Dead Sea. Stay on the Red Sea Coast and drive into the desert to take tea with the Bedouins and cruise the Gulf of Aqaba. Cross the Sinai Peninsula and visit the Suez Canal, before spending four full days amongst the stunning antiquities of Lower Egypt, including Cairo and the Pyramids. Your itinerArY DAY 1 - Meet your travelling companions in the executive lounge prior to your scheduled flight to Amman, capital of Jordan. On arrival transfer to your hotel for a three night stay. This evening enjoy a welcome drink. DAY 2 - Morning city tour of Amman (known in biblical times as Philadelphia), including the Roman amphitheatre and the magnificent citadel. Afternoon visit to Jerash, the most beautifully preserved Roman city in existence. See the Temples of Artemis and Zeus, a vast Roman forum, Hadrians Triumphal Arch, and a mile long street of columns. DAY 3 - Today we have included a fascinating full day excursion. This morning we visit the Dead Sea, the lowest spot on earth, then continue to Mount Nebo from which Moses sighted the Promised Land. You will then visit Madaba to see the remarkable centuries-old stone mosaic of the Holy Land, before returning to Amman. DAY 4 - Today we travel south along the Kings Highway with its breathtaking views of mountains and canyons to Kerak to visit the ancient fortress. We continue and reach Petra this evening for an overnight stay. DAY 5 - Today, we include a full day walking visit to Petra, once a fabulously wealthy city on the caravan trade routes to the east. The people of Petra carved their dwellings and civic buildings out of the sandstone to create a magnificent city like no other before or since. The city is concealed beyond a long narrow defile (the Siq) and we will be guided through this corridor of rock into the lost city. Petra is truly one of the worlds most extraordinary sights and a memorable experience, particularly the first glimpse of the magnificent Treasury Building at the end of the Siq. We then drive to the resort of Aqaba for a two night stay. DAY 6 - Free to enjoy the town of Aqaba or join our optional morning excursion into the desert of Wadi Rum. You will see the headquarters of the Desert Police, and also have the opportunity to take tea with the nomadic Bedouin. You can also take a glassbottomed boat trip from Aqaba to see the coral and beautiful marine life of the Red Sea. DAY 7 - We drive to the port and embark on our cruise to Nuweiba for an overnight stay. You can relax at the hotel or join our optional excursion to explore the Coloured Canyon. DAY 8 - We travel through the dramatic countryside of the Sinai Peninsula to St. Catherine for an overnight stay. DAY 9 - Our journey via the Suez Canal continues to Cairo for a four night stay. DAY 10 - The highlight today is our included visit to the world-famous Egyptian Museum which includes treasures from the tombs of Tutankhamen. DAY 11 - We enjoy an included full day tour of some of Egypts famous monuments. The world-renowned Giza Pyramids are by no means the only pyramids in Lower Egypt, and this morning we will visit Dahshur, whose treasures have only recently been revealed EGYPT River Nile to visitors. There were originally eleven pyramids at Dahshur, although only four remain intact. We will see the curious Bent Pyramid, and the fabulous Red Pyramid, which is only 30ft smaller than the Great Pyramid at Giza. Here we can enter the pyramid and descend through a passageway to the burial chamber at its very centre. We then visit Saqqara. Few archaeological sites in the world can compare with this four-mile-long burial site. The magnificent Step Pyramid is the highlight. Finally we reach the ruins of Memphis, the former capital of Old Egypt. This afternoon we continue on an included visit to the legendary Pyramids and the Sphinx. The great Pyramids of Giza stand on a rocky plateau on the western bank of the Nile. They are the most famous, intensely measured, studied and debated monuments in the world. Close to the Pyramids lies the magnificent Sphinx, a huge statue of a recumbent lion with a human head believed to be fashioned in the likeness of the Pharaoh Chephren. DAY 12 - We spend the day visiting Cairos magnificent Citadel, the Sultan Hassan Mosque and Khan El Khalili Bazaar. DAY 13 - Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
