DAY 1 - Meet your travelling companions in the executive lounge prior to your scheduled flight to Hanoi. DAY 2 - Arrival in Hanoi, capital of Vietnam. Transfer to your hotel for a three night stay. Evening welcome drink and dinner. DAY 3 - Hanoi is old-fashioned in style. It is a city of lakes, parks and elegant French mansions, all a reminder of its colonial past. This morning we have included a city tour, followed by a walking tour of the Ancient Quarter. This afternoon a visit will be made to the One Pillar Pagoda and then to Ba Dinh Square where silent sentries guard the marble and granite mausoleum where Ho Chi Minh, father of the country, lies in state. A visit will also be made to the simple cottage where Ho lived and worked. This evening there will be an included Water Puppet show, an ancient art form unique to north Vietnam. DAY 4 - Full day included tour to Halong Bay, considered a world beauty spot. You will take a four hour boat cruise, including seafood lunch, amongst the dramatic limestone peaks which rise out of the sea. DAY 5 - Transfer to the airport for the flight from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, better known as Saigon, for a three night stay. Evidence of former French colonisation still remains and this combined with the culture of the predominantly Buddhist population and the booming free-market economy makes for a memorable visit. DAY 6 - Morning included city tour visiting the Presidential Palace, the History Museum and views of Notre Dame Cathedral. This afternoon you drive to the Cu Chi Tunnels, an amazing series of underground passages used by the Viet Cong during the war with America. Travel by boat on the River Mekong, one of the worlds greatest rivers, flowing 3,000 miles from the Tibetan Plateau to the South China Sea. DAY 8 - This morning you depart Saigon for the drive to Dalat. The journey passes through spectacular countryside as the road weaves through plantations, villages and mountains to the plateau of the Central Highlands. The summer residence of Vietnams last emperor, Bao Dai stands on a hill on the outskirts of the city centre and it has been preserved exactly as it was when the emperor left in 1954.
