YOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1 - Meet your travelling companions in the executive A lounge before your scheduled flight to Atlanta. On arrival transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay. Welcome drink this evening. DAY 2 - Situated in the heart of America's `Deep South' and A immortalised in `Gone With The Wind', Atlanta is one of America's foremost cities. Our included morning sightseeing tour takes in famous Peachtree Street, the Georgia State Capitol, the main downtown area, and Underground Atlanta, the `city beneath the streets', also Dr Martin Luther King's birthplace and the church where he preached. Afternoon drive across Georgia to the Atlantic Coast and historic Savannah for an overnight stay. DAY 3 - Savannah epitomises the elegance and gracious A living of the southern states in the 18th and 19th centuries, as you can see during our included tour by horse and carriage. Free time before a late afternoon drive to Charleston in South Carolina for a two night stay. DAY 4 - Charleston combines a fine natural harbour A and aristocratic Georgian homes with a Mediterranean atmosphere, from its narrow cobbled streets, pavement cafés, bistros and restaurants. Visit the waterfront, the old slave market and the exchange building on our included guided coach tour of the old town followed by an afternoon harbour cruise to Fort Sumter, where the first shots of the American Civil War were fired. DAY 5 - Drive to Wilmington in North Carolina, one of the A oldest seaports in the USA. A city tour is included before reaching your hotel for an overnight stay. DAY 6 - Depart Wilmington for the drive to Richmond. On A arrival transfer to your hotel for a two night stay. DAY 7 - Our included drive around some of the most A famous locations in American history visits Jamestown, the first British settlement; Williamsburg, restored to its colonial glory; the beautiful Berkeley Plantation where the first official Thanksgiving was held in 1619 and Richmond, the state capital and cultural centre. DAY 8 - Leave for Monticello, the magnificent home of A Thomas Jefferson. Admission is included. Continue through the fabled Blue Ridge Mountains and lovely Shenandoah Valley to Washington for a two night stay. DAY 9 - A morning sightseeing tour is included with the A rest of the day free. See the stately Capitol, with its famous Dome of Freedom, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, Arlington Cemetery, Pentagon, White House, Supreme Court, Smithsonian Institute and the US Treasury.
