YOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1 - Meet your travelling companions in the A executive lounge prior to your scheduled flight to Lima. Late evening arrival. Transfer to your hotel for a two night stay. DAY 2 - Peru offers a wealth of landscapes, history A and culture. The snow-capped peaks of the Andes, the architecture of the Incas and the vivid colours of the native Indians ensure a memorable visit. Lima was founded in 1535 by the Spanish Conquistador, Francisco Pizarro. Much of Spain's colonial influence can still be seen today. Beautiful squares, fine churches and mansions have changed little since the 17th century. Our included morning tour will introduce you to the `City of Kings'. You will see the Cathedral located in the Plaza de Armas, the Archbishop's Palace and the Presidential Palace. The afternoon is free to explore at leisure and perhaps visit the city's many museums including the Anthropological and Larco Herrera museums and their fascinating artefacts from pre-Inca and Inca times. This evening there will be a welcome drink followed by an included dinner at a local restaurant. DAY 3 - Today you will fly to Cuzco. Transfer to your A hotel for a four night stay. DAY 4 - The former Inca capital, the `Imperial City' A of Cuzco offers the visitor a fascinating combination of Inca and colonial architecture. Here you will find mansions and churches, cobbled streets lined with Inca built stone walls and looming over the city, the ruin of the mighty stone Sacsayhuaman Fortress. The orange and red clay tones of the walls stand out against the vibrant green of the mountains. We include a morning introductory tour of Cuzco and the surrounding Inca sites. The afternoon will be free for you to explore further. DAY 5 - Today we have included an excursion into A the sacred valley of the Incas to Pisac, located about 25 miles from Cuzco. Here you can experience all the colours and tradition of the Indian markets selling local food, alpaca weavings and handicrafts. You will also have the opportunity to barter for local products such as rugs and alpaca sweaters. Lunch is included and this afternoon you will visit the impressive Inca ruins of the massive Ollantaytambo temple fortress with its intricate irrigation system and Inca baths. DAY 6 - Today we include a visit to the most famous A of all the ancient sites, the ruined city of Machu Picchu. Discovered by an American, Hiram Bingham in 1911, it is a highlight of any visit to Peru. Perched inaccessibly above a steep valley swathed in dense jungle, Machu Picchu is known as the `Lost City'. The true reason why it was built here remains a mystery. You will travel to Machu Picchu by narrow gauge railway. The last part of the journey is by bus to the mist-shrouded mountain tops where you will discover these captivating ruins. Lunch is included today. DAY 7 - We enjoy a fascinating drive along the shores A of Lake Titicaca to Puno for a two night stay. DAY 8 - You can join our included tour of Lake A Titicaca. This vast lake covers an area of 3,500 square miles and forms the natural border between Bolivia and Peru. Lying at an altitude of 12,500ft in the mighty Andes, Lake Titicaca is the world's highest navigable lake and was also the legendary birthplace of the Incas. We include a boat trip on the lake visiting the Uros Islands. These floating islands on Titicaca are actually made from a thick type of reed called `totora', which sprouts from the waters of the lake and are home to local Indians who have inhabited the area for centuries and still practise the traditional way of life. A picnic lunch is included today. This afternoon we visit to the burial site at Sillustani for a guided tour of the pre-Inca stone towers formerly used as graves for the high born.
