This fascinating visit explores not only the ultra-modern Japan of today, but more especially the ancient culture and traditions which underpin this fascinating land. Compared with many far eastern lands, Japan remains an enigma steeped in mystical art forms, ancient religion and curious daily rituals. Our tour begins in Tokyo, the dynamic capital, and continues to Kyoto, the spiritual and historical heart of Japan.
YOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1 - Meet your travelling companions in the A executive lounge prior to your scheduled flight to Tokyo. DAY 2 - Arrival in Tokyo. Transfer to your hotel for A T a three night stay. Welcome drink and dinner this evening. DAY 3 - Tokyo is a showcase city with wide bridges, A T deluxe hotels, spectacular theatres and elegant shopping plazas, but modern influences have not overwhelmed the old. Tea ceremonies, flower T arrangements, festivals and old traditions are a constant reminder of the Japan of `Madame Butterfly' and `The Mikado'. This morning we have included a city tour. DAY 4 - Free in Tokyo or you can join our full day A T optional excursion to the splendid volcanic cone of Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan. Included dinner at a local restaurant this evening. DAY 5 - Morning transfer to Tokyo station. Here you A T will board the famous Bullet Train bound for Kyoto. The 325 mile journey takes 2½ hours and, weather permitting, you can enjoy views of magnificent Mount Fuji en route. Kyoto was the imperial capital for more than 1,000 years. It presents a near-perfect image of the old Japan temples hovering over a silk scroll landscape, dreamy gardens and pavilions, multicoloured kimonos and a refined culture and lifestyle. Kyoto is the home of the geisha, young girls who are trained in the traditional arts of Japan. Three nights' accommodation has been arranged.

DAY 6 - We have included a full day of sightseeing. A This morning you will visit Nara, the City of Temples, home to the Todaiji Temple, where you will see the Great Buddha. This afternoon return to Kyoto to visit the Nijo Castle, a luxurious former residential palace and the Kinkakuji Temple, the most famous of all the temples in Japan. Lunch is included today. DAY 7 - Join a full day optional excursion to Hiroshima A where visits will be made to the Peace Memorial Park and the island of Miyajima where the world-famous Torii Gate, symbol of Japan, rises from the sea. Farewell dinner and drink this evening. DAY 8 - Morning transfer to Osaka Airport for your A return flight to the UK. As you will be flying westwards your arrival is later the same day.
YOUR HOTELS
Y You will stay in the Crowne Plaza Metropolitan Hotel in Tokyo and the Aranvert or Monterey in Kyoto. All T rooms feature private facilities, TV, telephone and refrigerator. Hotel facilities include restaurant, bar and pool.
