Giverny The impressionist artist, Claude Monet, lived here from 1883 until his death. Visit his colourful house and the beautiful waterlily gardens which were his source of inspiration for many paintings. Versailles An impressive Royal palace, once home to Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. Visit the elegant Hall of Mirrors where the Treaty of Versailles was signed and the splendid private apartments of the King and Queen. Pierrefonds An attractive lakeside village set on a commanding hilltop. Dominated by the huge 12th century Château de Pierrefonds, a fairytale castle with majestic towers. Compiègne Known for its vast royal palace built on the edge of the beautiful Fôret de Compiègne - a sight not to be missed.
