DAY 4
After breakfast drive to Nyahururu falls for a photo-stop. Still known to many as Thomson's Falls, its waters fall 237 feet making it the country's highest. Continue driving to the foothills of Mount Kenya, arriving at the Serena Mountain Lodge for lunch followed by an afternoon at leisure and overnight stay. While away a few lazy hours on the viewing deck perched above the floodlit waterhole where animals such as buffalo and elephant come to drink.
NB Warm clothing is advisable as nights tend to be chilly.
After a restful afternoon, set out for a game drive in the reserve, a magnificent landscape of open plains bisected by the Mara River and its tributaries, punctuated by marshes and forests and supporting the highest density of game to be seen anywhere. Return to camp for dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 8
Enjoy the entire day in the Masai Mara with early morning and afternoon game drives.
DAY 9
Return this afternoon by Air Kenya light aircraft to Nairobi and connect with your return Kenya Airways overnight flight to Heathrow.
DAY 5
After breakfast at the lodge you head further north to your lunch-time destination, Sarova Shaba Lodge, set in the Shaba National Reserve in `Born Free' country. Your home for two nights, the lodge is set on a natural oasis where the water is channelled into cascades and fishponds throughout the grounds and is located next door to the site where Joy Adamson raised her adopted animals. The reserve and the neighbouring Samburu and Buffalo Springs Reserves are home to abundant plains game and the accompanying predators. Animals commonly seen are elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, cheetahs and buffalos. Enjoy an afternoon game viewing returning for dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Fly Mombasa Air direct from the Mara to the coast for four nights at the Leopard Beach Resort & Spa (p164), washing away the dust of the bush in the clear warm waters of the Indian Ocean, staying in a Standard room.

DAY 6
Full day game drive in the Samburu and Buffalo Springs National Reserves with picnic lunch.
DAY 10
Kenya Airways direct flight to Mauritius and the Heritage Golf & Spa Resort (p183) for four nights in a Deluxe room, beautifully nestled between the mountains of the south and the white sand beach.
DAY 7
After breakfast transfer to the airstrip for your Air Kenya light aircraft flight to the Masai Mara. On arrival transfer to the Sarova Mara Game Camp for lunch. Located within the world famous Game Reserve, the camp's 75 tents capture the true spirit of the Kenyan wild.
DAY 14
Air Mauritius direct daytime flight to Heathrow, arriving later the same day.
