MADAGASCAR
ESCORTED TOURS
In the afternoon you will embark on an hour's walk in the clean mountain air to the `Piscine Naturelle De L'Isalo', a natural swimming pool fed by a mini waterfall. Swimming is optional! Dinner and overnight at Isalo Ranch.
DAY 10
Embark on a full day visit to the National Park, with a guided tour allowing you to discover the wonderful flora, fauna and waterfalls.

DAY 1
Air Mauritius overnight flight to Madagascar via Mauritius. DAY 2 TO DAY 13 Itinerary as per main tour. DAY 14 Afternoon domestic flight to Antananarivo for your evening Air Mauritius flight to Mauritius and the Veranda Grande Baie hotel (p182) for four nights in a Standard room on a half board basis. DAY 18 Air Mauritius daytime flight to Heathrow.
DAY 5
Continue north after breakfast, passing the `Bishop's Hat' rock formation before stopping at Anja, a protected lemur park where you may spot the rare and beautiful ring tailed lemur. Afterwards visit the small village of Ambalavao, famous locally for it's wines and a paper factory with lunch en route. Suitably refreshed, continue to Fianarantsoa, where the landscape changes to terraced rice fields and highland villages. Dinner and overnight at Tsara Guest House hotel.
DAY 11
Journey down the north west coast of the island to Ankarana and it's national park, home to famous limestone formations and a high density of primates. Continue westwards to Ankify where you will stay overnight.
DAY 12
A pleasant boat journey awaits this morning which takes you to the laid back tropical island resort of Nosy Be. Transfer to your hotel on arrival for lunch with the rest of the afternoon at leisure to wind down and soak up the relaxing ambience. Stay for two nights at Vanila Hotel.
DAY 6
A morning city tour of Fianarantsoa, the country's catholic centre and capital of the Betsileo tribe. Continue through the highlands with lunch en route before arriving in Antsirabe. Rest of the day is at leisure and overnight at Thermes Hotel.
DAY 13
Depart after breakfast on a boat excursion to the nearby island of Nosy Kombo, including a walk through a traditional fisherman's village, then continue to the marine reserve of Nosy Tanikely. Enjoy a picnic lunch and some time on the beach for swimming, with optional snorkelling or diving activities available. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 7
Time to explore the town this morning, set in the middle of a fertile volcanic plain and known for it's rickshaws, gemstones, fresh produce and mineral water. Then onto the capital Antananarivo for a lunch stop before visiting Mantasoa, and the ruins of the island's first industry complex built by the French in the 1830s. Stay overnight at the Riverside hotel.
DAY 14
Your final morning is at leisure on Nosy Be, with breakfast at the hotel before a transfer to the local airport for a domestic flight to Antananarivo and then returning on your South African Airways flight overnight to Heathrow via Johannesburg.
DAY 8
Visit the Analamazaotra National Park today to discover the singing lemur, `Indri Indri'. Lunch is followed by the chance to see a population of tame lemurs in a private reserve, before returning to the capital for dinner and overnight in the centre of town.

DAY 14
Remain in Nosy Be at the Vanila Hotel for two more nights of relaxation, sunbathing and exploring the neighbouring islands.
DAY 9
A short domestic flight this morning to Antsiranana on the northern tip of this huge island, followed by a city tour and lunch. Continue to Joffre Ville, historically a rest and relaxation destination for French soldiers and now gateway to the Amber Mountain National Park. Dinner and overnight at Nature Lodge Hotel, your base for two nights.
DAY 16
Transfer to the local airport for a domestic flight to Antananarivo to connect with your South African Airways flight overnight to Heathrow via Johannesburg.
