INTRODUCTION CANADA see & do CITIES Canada has many great cities all offering something unique and special. Toronto is a compact city with a host of wonderful sightseeing opportunities; Montreal and Quebec are both enchanting historical cities with a strong French influence whilst Vancouver has a breathtaking setting along the Pacific Ocean and numerous beaches and parks. It has to be seen to be believed! THE ROCKIES The Canadian Rockies are legendary for their towering mountain ranges, majestic glaciers, raging rivers and turquoise lakes. Apart from the amazing scenery they offer a wealth of exhilarating outdoor activities including white water rafting, hiking, skiing and golf. CALGARY STAMPEDE Experience the greatest rodeo in the world! The Calgary Stampede is held annually in Calgary in July where cowboys from all over the world come together for a festival of daring showmanship and pure fun! TRAINS Canada offers some of the most spectacular rail journeys in the world. Via Rail Canada travels through the varied and majestic landscape of Canada between Toronto and Vancouver stopping at towns and cities such as Jasper and Winnipeg. It also offers a frequent service between the eastern cities of Toronto, Ottawa. Montreal and Quebec City. The most famous journey of all is `The Rocky Mountaineer', which travels through the mesmerising Rocky Mountains between Calgary and Vancouver. See p184-187 for further details. NATURE Coast to coast Canada has 40 National Parks and 13 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. From the red cliffs capped in emerald green on Prince Edward Island to the towering peaks and glaciers of Jasper National Park, it's simply breathtaking. Canada's' wildlife is also varied and unique, there are brown bears, whales, caribou, deer, moose and over 180 species of fish. ADVENTURE Canada is one of the most adventurous countries in the world, and there is no shortage of outdoor activities to choose from. Choose from horse riding through the Rockies, skiing in Jasper, Banff or Whistler, white water rafting along the mighty Fraser and Thompson Rivers in British Columbia or hiking along many of the wonderful walking trails throughout the country.
