HOTELS Most of the well known hotels are on `The Strip' and choosing which hotel to stay in is part of the fun. Choose the striking pyramid shaped Luxor with its Egyptian theme, the top class Bellagio with its mesmerising fountains or enjoy thrilling roller coaster rides atop New York New York. ENTERTAINMENT There is no shortage of entertainment day and night in Las Vegas. The famous Cirque du Soleil's aquatic show and the adult themed Zumanity are just a few of the top shows. Free day and night shows are also available at the hotels. See the erupting volcano at the Mirage or buckling sea battles at Treasure Island. Freemont Street was the home of the first hotels ever built in Las Vegas and now is a colourful bustling pedestrian zone covered by a vast steel canopy from which several sound and light shows are projected every night.
SHOPPING Shopping in Las Vegas has improved over the past few years with the opening of the Fashion Show Mall located opposite the Wynn Hotel and outlet malls, which are located just outside the city. Many of the hotels including Caesars Palace and The Venetian have their own shopping arcades. DINING Finding a restaurant in Las Vegas, is never a problem. High quality restaurants are within the hotels themselves and normally don't require prebooking. The `all you can eat buffet' restaurants are dotted all over the strip and are available at reasonable prices. It's best to get local recommendations for the in places to dine, whether it is for breakfast or a special occasion. The hotel concierge will be able to advise you. GRAND CANYON The natural wonder of the Grand Canyon can easily be visited from Las Vegas by plane or helicopter. Please refer to p120-121 for details on experiences to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas.
HOOVER DAM This well renowned structure is just 30 miles east of Las Vegas. Hailed as an engineering marvel, it can be seen on the majority of flights going out to the Grand Canyon or can be reached by road. Please refer to p120-121 for experiences including Hoover Dam. FREE HELICOPTER SIGHTSEEING Stay a minimum of three consecutive nights in Las Vegas and receive a free sightseeing trip over Las Vegas. See spectacular views of the dazzling lights from the comfort of your helicopter. Cruise past Caesars Palace, the Stratosphere, lower Freemont Street and the Space Beam of the Luxor Pyramid. Transfers to and from your hotels are not included but can be arranged locally at a supplement. Offer not applicable to clients travelling on coach tours.

INFORMATION Population: 1,425,700 Airport: McCarran International Airport Local Transport: Taxis, monorails and the `Strip Trolley' provide inexpensive transport up and down the main neon strip. Shops: Previously not renowned for its shopping but today most of the hotels offer malls and outside of Las Vegas large outlet malls provide excellent shopping value. Travel Tips: Take plenty of money! Or at least budget for what you're prepared to lose or spend.
